We are currently seeking a Heavy Duty Truck Mechanic for one of our Bakersfield Divisions.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Diagnose/rebuild/repair vehicles and equipment. 
  • Performs detailed inspections and preventive maintenance of vehicles and equipment.
  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, remove and repair engines.
  • Remove and replace transmissions and brakes.
  • Repair, mount and dismount tires.
  • Repair and replace hydraulic hoses.
  • Remove and replace breaks
  • Prepares and maintains records and reports. 
  • Must follow all safety procedures and policies.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Methods, materials, tools and techniques used in vehicle and equipment repair and maintenance. 
  • Diagnosing mechanical problems and performing repairs. Safety practices and procedures. 
  • Working knowledge of: 
  •  Mechanical design and fabrication. 
  •  Electrical systems, including computerized induction/ignition systems. 
  • Skill in: 
  • Use of power and hand tools. 
  • Use of diagnostic equipment. 
  • Acetylene and electric arc welding. 
  • Operation of vehicles and equipment for diagnostic purposes.
  • Ability to: 
  • Work varying shifts, weekends and holidays. 
  • Diagnose problems and make repairs in the field. 
  • Effectively handle lifting of various objects weighing up to 75 pounds. 
  • Work extended hours outdoors in a variety of weather conditions. 
  • Prepare and maintain records and reports. 
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other agencies and the public. 
  • Follow written and verbal instructions, including manufacturers’ service specifications. 
  • Communicate effectively verbally and in writing. 

TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE: 

  • Minimum of three years of experience and/or training in CNG/LNG/Diesel truck repair and maintenance, required
  • Or any combination of education, training and experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position.
  • Have a clean driving record
  • Waste Industry experience, preferred
  • In-frame engine overall experience, preferred
  • Welding experience, preferred
  • Valid California Driver's License and a clean driving record, required

PHYSICAL:

  • Be able to perform heavy lifting up to 75lbs.
  • Physically demanding.
  • Work overhead and underneath equipment.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Will be exposed to outdoor weather heat, cold, rain, and wind.
  • Will be exposed to moderate levels of noise and dust.
