About the Role
As a Senior Medical Writer within our dedicated Medical Communications team, you will play a pivotal role in providing senior-level medical and clinical writing support. This encompasses the development of a wide range of scientific and medical content, including outlines, manuscripts, abstracts, scientific posters, reports, and slide presentations, focused on specific therapeutic areas. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional team members to ensure client expectations, budgets, and timelines are met. This role offers the opportunity to work on a diverse portfolio of medical communications initiatives, including accredited and non-accredited learning programs, for a variety of therapeutic areas. Occasional project-related travel may be required.
What You’ll Do
Content Development & Scientific Storytelling:
- Conduct comprehensive and relevant research and literature reviews.
- Interpret and synthesize large amounts of scientific data to create compelling messaging, scientific stories, and narratives that align with project goals.
- Structure and write key medical communications documents, including learning programs, manuscripts, posters, abstracts, peer-to-peer slide decks, interactive training programs, and advisory board reports.
- Adapt writing style to suit diverse audiences (e.g., primary and secondary care physicians, specialists, nurses, patients, and other stakeholders).
- Contribute to the educational design and development of learning programs, ensuring optimal engagement and knowledge transfer.
Therapeutic Area Expertise & Application:
- Combine a thorough understanding of therapeutic areas with product strategy to ensure communication objectives are met on assigned projects.
- Identify and leverage relevant, focused resources to understand the underlying science and product strategy related to assigned projects.
- Possess the ability to work across multiple therapeutic areas and quickly learn and apply knowledge in new therapeutic areas.
Quality Assurance & Accuracy:
- Ensure all work adheres to internal quality control standards.
- Review projects for scientific accuracy, alignment with the project brief, and appropriate incorporation of internal and client/author feedback.
- Communicate feedback effectively to team members to ensure accurate incorporation and adherence to project objectives
Efficiency & Time Management:
- Demonstrate an ability to use a range of resources and tools for efficiency (e.g., work management platform, Sharepoint, Teams).
- Capable of working on multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining high quality and adhering to deadlines.
What You’ll Need
- Educational Background: Relevant science degree (PhD preferred).
- Industry Experience: 4+ years of experience as a medical writer in an agency or similar environment. In-depth understanding of the life sciences, with the ability to leverage and apply this knowledge across a variety of therapeutic areas. Medical/Pharmaceutical and/or CME experience is a must.
- Educational Design: A keen interest in and aptitude for the design and development of engaging and effective learning programs, with a focus on optimal knowledge transfer.
- Analytical & Communication Skills: Ability to simplify complex scientific concepts for diverse audiences.
- Collaboration & Influence: Proven ability to effectively interact with internal teams, clients, and key opinion leaders.
- Language Proficiency: Excellent command of English grammar, punctuation, and spelling. Professional knowledge of medical terminology and expertise in articulating pharmaceutical processes and requirements.
- Work Ethic & Autonomy: Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
