Be the go-to resource for employees’ tech needs as an IT Specialist, where you’ll deliver responsive support, troubleshoot devices, and ensure a seamless end-user experience. Join our IT Service Desk team and play a key role in keeping daily operations running smoothly!

 

The IT Specialist is the first point of contact for employees requiring IT support. This role is responsible for delivering excellent customer service, addressing day-to-day technical requests, and ensuring a positive end-user experience. The IT Specialist configures and troubleshoots PCs, laptops, mobile devices, and peripherals, while maintaining responsiveness to user needs.

This position plays a key role in the IT Service Desk by managing incoming requests, resolving common hardware and software issues, and escalating complex incidents to senior team members when necessary. The IT Specialist  helps ensure smooth IT operations by keeping accurate documentation of issues and contributing to team knowledge sharing.

The IT Specialist can expect to focus in the following areas:

 

End-User Support & Customer Service

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for IT requests via help desk, phone, email, and in-person support.
  • Deliver professional, courteous, and timely assistance to end users.
  • Diagnose and resolve common hardware, software, and network-related issues.
  • Escalate unresolved or complex issues to Specialist II or Lead, ensuring proper follow-up.
  • Provide basic training and guidance to end users on systems and applications.

Hardware & Software Support

  • Configure, install, and set up PCs, laptops, and peripheral equipment.
  • Provide technical support for desktops, laptops, and mobile devices.
  • Assist with deploying and recycling hardware.
  • Support setup and maintenance of AV equipment and conference rooms.
  • Perform user account changes and system updates in Active Directory, Azure, and other applications as directed.

Documentation & Tracking

  • Document, track, and monitor support requests in the ITSM system (e.g., FreshService).
  • Maintain accurate records of incidents and resolutions for knowledge sharing.
  • Assist in maintaining inventory records for IT hardware and peripherals.
  • Contribute updates to knowledge base articles and team documentation.

Collaboration

  • Work closely with Specialist II, Lead, and other IT team members to ensure consistent service delivery.
  • Participate in team meetings and training to improve skills and align with IT initiatives.
  • Support IT projects as needed, primarily in execution (device deployment, basic configurations, user setup).

 

 

A couple things to note about our IT Specialist position:

 

  • This is a full-time in-person position working Monday – Friday 8:00am – 5:00pm.
  • The role is based out of our office in Rockford, IL.


The IT Specialist position typically requires the following qualifications:

 

- Associate degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field, or equivalent experience, or equivalent experience supporting users.

- Relevant certifications preferred (Microsoft, Network+).

- 1–2 years of help desk experience, or equivalent experience.

- Strong customer service background with proven ability to assist non-technical users.

- Experience supporting Windows desktops/laptops and common applications (Microsoft 365, Zoom, etc.).

The expected base salary range for this role nationally is $23 - $30. However, final base pay will be carefully determined based on several factors, including responsibilities, skills, relevant experience, geographic location, and market conditions.
