Are you an experienced Loan Officer with a passion for helping members achieve their financial goals? We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Loan Officer to join our dynamic team. In this role, you’ll leverage your expertise to interview applicants, evaluate creditworthiness, and provide lending solutions tailored to our members’ needs. Responsibilities:
- Interview loan applicants to gather background information and assess financial needs.
- Provide information on loan products and recommend options that best meet member needs.
- Complete loan applications over the phone and/or electronically.
- Pull and evaluate credit reports, verify debts, and estimate monthly payments for accuracy.
- Calculate debt-to-income ratios and determine secured versus unsecured debt.
- Identify collateral needs and develop repayment plans with members.
- Determine the eligibility of loan co-makers based on statements and credit ratings.
- Approve or deny loan applications within authorized limits; escalate applications outside limits as needed.
- Verify the accuracy of loan amounts, terms, and repayment schedules for approved loans.
- Notify applicants of loan decisions and clearly explain reasons for denial when applicable.
- Provide recommendations or alternative solutions to help members secure financing in the future.
- Cross-sell lending and other credit union products and services.
- Stay informed on changes in consumer lending trends, policies, and regulations.
- Assist in various areas of the loan department as needed.
Requirements
Requirements:
- Professional, well-developed interpersonal skills are essential for interviewing applicants and representing the Credit Union in a positive manner.
- Knowledge of consumer loan policies, credit-granting criteria, interest rate structures, and required documentation for various loan types.
- Strong interviewing skills and techniques.
- Associate’s degree or higher preferred (High School Diploma required).
- Minimum two (2) years of experience in a lending environment within a credit union or financial institution required; experience in loan interviewing preferred.
- Intermediate math skills required (calculations and concepts involving decimals, percentages, fractions, etc.).
- Ability to meet Credit Union attendance standards.
