Job Summary:
The Facilities Maintenance Assistant maintains the CABVI locations located at Kenner St. and Gilbert Ave. Focus on maintaining building equipment and appearance of the building. Provide a high quality of building and grounds functioning and esthetics to achieve a high degree of employee and client satisfaction.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Responsible for maintenance of the Hornbeck Center location and support facilities at HQ location.
- Performs preventative and minor maintenance repairs.
- Perform maintenance, replacement, minor installation and repair of plumbing equipment (e.g., water & trap fittings, plumbing fixtures, valves, faucets, toilets, sinks, heating & air conditioning, piping, drinking fountains.
- Assists with coordination of safety and evacuation procedures:
- Responsible for inspection of fire extinguishers and emergency exit lights/signs.
- Assist with fire alarm testing/drills at both facilities.
- Check eyewash stations monthly and record.
- Maintain first aid cabinets and reorder supplies as needed
- Perform maintenance, replacement, minor installation and repair of electrical equipment (e.g., light fixtures, electrical outlets, switches, motors, appliances, electrical circuits, emergency lighting, fire alarms, exhaust fans.
- Perform interior custodial duties (e.g., mop, sweep, wash walls & windows); perform exterior groundskeeping duties (e.g., cut grass, clean sidewalks, assist in and/or remove snow & ice from walkways.
- Take ownership of the building and grounds with little oversite.
- Use a floor scrubber to clean production floors as needed. (at least once a month)
- Responsible for securing exits and other end-of-the-day procedures.
- Check the Facilities work order system and respond to all requests within 24 hours.
- Weekly “rounding” of the facility inside and outside. Inspect potential safety issues and communicate them to the Facilities Manager.
- Responsible for BBP program including maintaining supplies and responding to employee’s injuries with PPE, first aid and OSHA required BBP procedures.
- Perform other tasks, duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications
Education and Experience:
- Previous maintenance and custodial experience preferred.
- Knowledge of First Aid and Bloodborne Pathogen (BBP) standards preferred. Participate in CABVI bi-annual First Responder training.
- Experience (or interest in) working with a diverse population.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Must be able to work independently, multi-task, is detail orientated, self-motivated and have a sense of mission.
- Take accountability, manage priorities, deliver results.
- Ability to communicate effectively and carry out simple instructions.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (word, excel, outlook) required.
- Knowledge of First Aid and Bloodborne Pathogen (BBP) standards preferred. Participate in CABVI bi-annual First Responder training.
Physical Demands:
- Must have a valid driver license and personal vehicle insurance. (May need to drive to other location.)
- Must be able to lift to 50 lbs., stand and kneel for long periods of time, and clean high places with appropriate tools.
- Ability to safely operate scissors lift and floor scrubber.
Work Environment:
- Indoor, climate-controlled, offices and industrial distribution warehouse setting.
- Exposure to dust, dirt, oils, cleaning fluids, and other hazardous materials.
- Possible exposure to blood requiring BBP training and certification.
- May require outdoor exposure to weather elements including heat, cold, and precipitation.
