Job Description Summary

Organizational Statement Summary:

The Neuroscience and Cognitive Science (NACS) Program is an interdisciplinary graduate training program housed within the College of Behavioral and Social Sciences at the University of Maryland, College Park. The program offers a Ph.D. degree focused on training scholars in the integrative study of brain, behavior, and cognition through coursework and mentored research. With participation from over 20 departments and research centers, NACS fosters collaboration across diverse disciplines. Research areas span cognitive neuroscience, computational modeling, language, sensory systems, and neurodevelopmental disorders. The program emphasizes academic excellence, scientific ethics, and diversity, equity, and inclusion in all aspects of graduate training.

The Assistant Director of the Neuroscience and Cognitive Science (NACS) Program supports the Director in managing and advancing all aspects of the graduate program. This role is pivotal in coordinating program operations, facilitating faculty and student engagement, maintaining institutional partnerships, and ensuring compliance with university policies and procedures. The position involves a high level of independent judgment, organization, and communication across multiple academic and research units.

Preferred Qualifications:
● Master’s degree preferred.
● Experience supporting graduate academic programs or interdisciplinary research initiatives.
● Familiarity with University of Maryland systems, policies, and governance structures.
● Experience working with data systems and tools (e.g., Excel, Workday).

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.

Experience: Seven (7) years of professional experience managing business operations. Two (2) years of experience supervising or managing professional staff.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:

 

Knowledge of business acumen to understand key business drivers, organizational communications, and data.
Knowledge of organizational and unit performances measures.
Knowledge of the impact and implications of decisions on leadership objectives.
Skill in oral and written communication.
Skill in data analytics and negotiation.
Skill in the use of Microsoft Office and Google Suite products.
Ability to exercise independent judgment and discretion.
Ability to develop and administer new policies and procedures.
Ability to interpret and apply policies, procedures, regulations, and laws.
