Position Summary: 

Community Education Strings Instructor is responsible for teaching string classes through the Mehlville School District Office of Community Education.  The teacher will teach a 10-hour long class and/or 20 – thirty-minute class per semester classes, to be held in the evening.  The Community Education Strings Instructor’s pay rate is based upon student recruitment and enrollment for the Community Education students. 

Qualifications:

• Applicants must be 18 years of age or older with a high school diploma.
• Requires applicant to be a strings specialist (violin, viola, cello, and string bass knowledge required)
• Requires some knowledge of the Suzuki Method
• Requires 0-2 years of teaching experience in either private or group lesson settings

Essential Job Functions include the following:

• Responsible for teaching students the fundamentals of their stringed instrument
• Responsible for setting up a teaching schedule in the evening within the parameters of the Community Education Strings Program
• Responsible for communicating with students and their parents/guardians of class expectations, student achievement, class schedule and any cancellations due to teacher related issue or inclement weather
• Responsible for communicating with the school office, Community Education regarding schedule and updated enrollment.
• Responsible for the supervision of students until they are picked up by parent/guardian.
• Collaborating with the district strings teachers for the all-district strings concerts.
• Other duties may be assigned
