Salary/Plan Group:
Transportation Engineer Tech I: A16 $50,000 - $61,130
Transportation Engineer Tech II: A18 $50,000 - $71,055
Important: As part of the selection process, candidates will be required to complete a simulation designed to evaluate practical application of concepts relevant to the role.

Performs basic design work and calculations. Performs field work; uses automated systems. Design activity is overseen by a licensed professional engineer or registered architect who has final approval authority for projects. Employees at this level follow standard practices that do not require frequent supervision of details.
Essential Duties:
The Essential Duties of a Transportation Engineer Tech I Include:
Performs basic design work.
Performs intermediate drafting and calculations in support of design activities; accomplishes non-routine and complex assignments.
Prepares field notes.
Prepares quantity summaries, hydraulic and utility studies and right-of-way maps
Prepares roadway design, traffic control, lighting, signal, and building plans.
Uses automated programs, interactive graphics and the Design and Construction Information System.
Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.
Additional Duties of a Transportation Engineer Tech II Include:
Performs advanced drafting and calculations in support of design activities; develops graphic presentations that include distinctive design features.
Performs intermediate design work.
Reviews entire sets of plans for format, drafting and calculation errors and correlation of plans and specifications.
Prepares quantity summaries, hydraulic and utility studies and right-of-way maps.
Prepares roadway design, traffic control, lighting, signal, and building plans.
Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:
Education: High School Grad or Equivalent in general high school studies.
Experience:
Transportation Engineer Tech I: No experience required.
Transportation Engineer Tech II :2 YEARS Drafting, design, plan preparation
(Experience can be satisfied by full time or prorated part time equivalent). Related College education or relevant technical training may be substituted for experience on a year per year basis. Substitutions for Minimum Qualifications
Licenses and Certifications:
Valid driver’s license. This position requires driving a state vehicle.

Basic roadway design
Hydrologic, hydraulic and geotechnical design activities and principles
Applicable engineering workstations and applications to support efficient planning and design activities
Higher mathematics

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
Subject to inside and outside environmental conditions
Subject to extreme cold and heat; below 32 and/or above 100 degrees for more than one hour
Subject to noise
Subject to vibration
Light work: Lift up to 20 lbs at a time and frequently lift or carry objects up to 10 lbs
Close Visual Acuity-work includes data/figures; view a computer screen; extensive reading
Required to wear protective gear-respirator, hard hat, or other device
