At Arup we’re dedicated to shaping a better world. Our purpose, shared values and collaborative approach has set us apart for over 75 years. We solve the world's most complex problems and deliver what seems impossible, with curiosity and creativity. We’re a thriving and growing organisation which offers you many possibilities to shape a better world, and your future.
In an increasingly competitive marketplace, our Marketing, Communications, and Business Development (MCBD) team enables Arup to build and protect our reputation, deepen client relationships, win quality work, and attract top talent. This role will be key in achieving our strategic market and client ambitions. We are seeking to hire a Global Media Relations Senior Specialist to strengthen our MCBD function.
The Opportunity -
The Global Media Relations Senior Specialist plays a key role in driving proactive media engagement, pitching and placing stories, helping to manage the PR and media aspect of global market facing campaigns, and writing inspiring and intelligent content for external publication. Working alongside colleagues in MCBD you will help deliver content for global market-facing media campaigns, securing mass-reach with our audiences. You will collaborate with business leaders, external partners and communicators and marketers around the world to build and protect the reputation of the firm – primarily through impactful media relations activities. You’ll help manage our retained PR agency and support colleagues globally in executing localized media relations strategies aligned with our global priorities.
- Proactively identify and pitch stories that support Arup’s strategic priorities and align with our business goals.
- Build, maintain and segment journalist/media outlet lists for maximum impact.
- Develop trusted relationships with journalists, particularly those working for Tier 1 and strategically important trade and specialist publications.
- Work with colleagues across marketing, communications, corporate affairs and business development to partner with senior global leaders and our businesses’ priority subject matter experts to raise their profile and secure coverage in “top tier” media and relevant sector titles. • Create, edit and review media-ready content including press releases, interview briefs and by-lined articles.
- Collaborate across regions with communications and marketing colleagues to amplify campaigns and share learnings.
- Advise internal clients and partners on how to increase newsworthiness of content and announcements.
- Support the planning and delivery of global, multi-channel campaigns, coordinating with regional teams and tracking progress to ensure strong execution and coverage.
Assist in the day-to-day management of planning and communications grids, external agencies, including briefing in, and helping to monitor deliverables.

You will be able to spot external opportunities as well as areas of potential reputational risk for the firm. You will be used to working with journalists and editors to successfully land stories in their publications. You will have experience in handling challenging press enquiries and an instinct for seeing areas of potential reputational risk.
- Undergraduate or further degree or post graduate professional qualification in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- Membership of a relevant professional body is encouraged.
Knowledge and experience: - Demonstrated PR experience with a strong media relations focus; global or multi-market exposure preferred.
- Experience in being part of a global media relations/PR team with an appreciation of how different markets engage with media.
- Previous in-house and agency role experience is ideal.
Effective in working with a communications agency and other third-party suppliers – including designers, copywriters and research organisations.
Skills and attributes:
- Excellent writing, editing and proofreading skills, including advanced understanding of English grammar and usage (English as a first language is not a requirement).
- Able to identify and create story and campaign ideas out of business priorities and technical work, and to translate complex technical or research content into clear, compelling stories.
- Personable and collaborative working style with good listening and interpersonal skills and a commitment to positive stakeholder management and effective partnering with peers.
- Confident and credible working with senior stakeholders; able to provide advice.
- Curious about how AI and emerging communications tools can enhance performance and storytelling.
