Coachella Valley Unified School District covers more than 1,200 square miles of mostly rural desert terrain, serving the communities of Coachella, Thermal, Mecca, Oasis, Indio, and the Salton Sea. Job Summary
A. General Description of Position Goals
Assists the Special Education Teacher in providing instruction to individuals or small groups of students with special needs as indicated in their Individualized Education Plans (IEP’s). The aide may provide a variety of supportive services to identified special education students within a special education classroom in a public integrated facility or in the regular education setting.
B. Essential Job Functions
1. Assists the Special Education teacher in accomplishing the IEP goals of identified students. Conducts activities to reinforce skills under the direction of the Special Education teacher.
2. Provides clerical assistance which may include preparation of instructional materials, maintaining student records and files, recording grades, operating educational equipment, setting up work areas, distributing and collecting supplies, collecting data on student progress toward behavioral, social or academic goals and other job-related tasks.
3. Assists with evaluations of student learning needs and progress by administration of informal inventories of skills, criterion – referenced tests, student observations, and other similar measures.
4. Assists students in routine non-instructional activities as directed and prescribed on the student’s Individualized Education Plan. These activities designated by the Special Education teacher or site administrator include assistance with student clothing, eating, toileting, mobility, playground, buses, field trips, mainstream classroom, etc.
5. Maintains a high level of confidentiality of information about students as assured in the Parent and Student’s Rights outlined in IDEIA.
6. Participates in meetings and staff development sessions as directed.
7. Provides emotional support, a positive attitude, and general guidance to students.

Requirements / Qualifications
C. Job Requirements/Qualifications:
1. Experience: Six (6) months demonstrated experience working with youth in an organized setting.
2. Education: High School graduation or the equivalent; Completion of two (2) years of higher education study OR possession of an Associate’s or higher-level degree OR pass assessment
that demonstrates knowledge of and the ability to assist in teaching reading, writing, and mathematics OR reading, writing, and mathematics readiness.
3. Licenses, Certifications and/or Testing:
• Successful completion of the State-mandated proficiency examination.
• Fingerprint/criminal justice clearance.
• Tuberculosis clearance
• Current First Aid and CPR Certificates.
