Job Overview

  • Execution-focused manager of the Accounting team that is focused on the reporting and tracking of administrative expenses and revenue items, as well as day-to-day oversight of cash management functions. Provides leadership, technical guidance, workflow management, and a commitment to maintaining high compliance standards on a day-to-day basis.

Salary range- $99.120- $111,510

Responsibilities:

Duties

     Daily Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Ensure that Accounting staff meet all deliverables, including those related to external constituents such as State and Federal auditors Provide clearly defined objectives. Set goals, conduct performance reviews, help develop training and succession planning.
  • Ensures journal entries related to administrative expenses and specific revenues, including interest income, are posted appropriately and reflected correctly in NJEDA’s financial statements.
  • Manages NJEDA’s cash balances, ensuring interest income is maximized through optimal allocations of funds.
  • Recommend and create new procedures as necessary, ensuring compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Procedures (GAAP), State of NJ and NJEDA policies and program requirements, communicating the changes and training team members as appropriate.
  • Contribute to the preparation of the Authority's annual financial statements, including footnotes.
  • Explain standards and methodologies effectively to team members and coach them through problem resolution. Establish good working relationships within the team.
  • Serve as a resource and subject matter expert to team members on relevant procedures and technical issues, with broad knowledge
Qualifications:

Skills and Qualifications

Technical Skills:

  • Advanced understanding of GAAP; ability to research technical issues in Government Accounting Standards Board (GASB) or Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) pronouncements and report findings. Ability to document transactional flows and internal processes. 
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Dynamics GP, Great Plains, transitioning to Business Central, other PC-based accounting and reporting systems and the ability to learn new software packages 

Soft Skills:

  • Prioritize workload, stay organized, detail-oriented, and handle various tasks independently under time constraints.
  • Strong leadership skills.
  • Possess high-level analytical and excellent problem-solving skills.

Certifications: 

  • CPA preferred but not required. 

 

Experience:

  • 7 years’ experience in commercial lending, economic development, or finance.
  • 5 years’ management/supervisory experience preferred.
  • Background in governmental auditing preferred 
  • Advanced degree or industry-specific certification may substitute for one year of experience.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance 

Software/Tools Proficiency:

  • NJEDA utilizes Microsoft as the core application platform and proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite is preferred.

 

Additional Information

  • Minimal physical demands and ability to work out normal business hours
  • Travel expected when necessary for business operations

 

Certificates and Licenses Required

  • Staff are required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform the essentials duties of the position.
