Our transit services provide mobility to residents of the city as well as tourists, providing incredible views and comfortable rides through historical neighborhoods and countless attractions. RTA’s system includes 5 streetcar lines, 30 bus routes, 2 ferry routes, and paratransit services. Our passengers take more than 19 million rides every year. 

JOB Title: Temporary Safety Compliance Analyst – Part Time

POSITION STATUS: TEMPORARY HOURLY EMPLOYEE ($25 per hour)

JOB SUMMARY

The temporary safety compliance analyst supports the safety program by conducting safety data analysis, compliance tracking, documentation and recordkeeping, and providing administrative support. The incumbent will play a vital role in developing and implementing the agency’s Safety Management System (SMS) and advancing other, ongoing safety initiatives. This role contributes directly to Corrective Action Plan (CAP) monitoring, safety dashboard development, and risk-based inspection documentation, in accordance with state and federal requirements.

The position works under the direct supervision of the Senior Manager of SMS, Analysis, and Compliance and is responsible for completing assigned projects independently, preparing professional deliverables, and contributing to biweekly CAP working groups. Please note: This temporary, non-benefit eligible role is designed to meet organizational needs for approximately 6 months, with the possibility of extension.


Position Duties

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Compile, organize, and validate safety and compliance data for internal and external reporting.
  • Conduct analysis work products related to Corrective Action Plans (CAPs), State Safety Oversight (SSO)-required reports, and other compliance deliverables.
  • Develop, review, edit, and maintain data dashboards and visualizations to promote awareness of and support decision-making related to safety trends, operator performance, and CAP progress.
  • Prepare concise and professional presentations to communicate safety findings and recommendations to management and cross-departmental stakeholders.
  • Contribute to documentation for risk-based inspection frameworks, safety investigations, and facility inspection initiatives.
  • Coordinate and document outcomes of biweekly CAP working groups, including tracking action items and ensuring timely follow-up.
  • Support the development of standard operating procedures (SOPs) and technical guides for sustaining dashboard and data analysis processes.
  • Research, interpret, analyze, and provide guidance and recommendations to fellow team members on safety regulations, best practices, and industry standards, in support of department objectives.
  • Performs other job-related duties related to the mission and vision of RTA

Minimum Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Transportation, Industrial/Organizational Psychology, Data Analytics, Engineering, Public Administration, or a related field; three years’ relevant work experience may substitute for education
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to accuracy and detail.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and data visualization platforms (e.g., Power BI, Tableau, or similar).
  • Ability to translate complex data into clear, visually compelling dashboards and reports.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage priorities to meet deadlines.
  • A valid Louisiana driver’s license or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out essential job responsibilities


WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Normal office environment and fieldwork. Fieldwork may require the employee to perform essential duties in an outdoor setting in a variety of weather conditions.
  • Incumbent must be able to board and alight transit vehicles, climb stairs, and move in confined spaces as well as stoop and bend.
  • Incumbent must have the ability to safely drive an automobile. In case of a serious accident, the employee must be prepared to report for duty as notified and work extended hours.

This is a designated Safety Sensitive Position under RTA Drug and Alcohol-Free Workplace Policy [“Non-USDOT”]. Drug and Alcohol Testing is conducted under RTA testing authority in accordance with Federal Transit Administration (FTA) regulations.
