We are looking for a Distribution Optimization Engineer to join our team and play a key role in streamlining and improving the efficiency of our distribution network. This position will focus on analyzing and optimizing processes related to the movement of goods, inventory management, and order fulfillment across our distribution network. You will apply a combination of data analytics, engineering principles, and process improvement techniques to reduce costs, enhance service levels, and increase operational efficiency in our distribution operations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Distribution Network Optimization:
    • Analyze the end-to-end distribution process, including transportation, warehousing, inventory management, and order fulfillment.
    • Identify inefficiencies, bottlenecks, and areas for improvement in the distribution network.
    • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to optimize transportation routes, warehouse layouts, and inventory management processes.
  • Process Improvement:
    • Implement Lean Six Sigma, Kaizen, and other process improvement methodologies to optimize distribution processes.
    • Use data-driven analysis to recommend solutions for reducing operational costs, improving on-time delivery, and enhancing customer satisfaction.
    • Develop and apply simulation models to evaluate the impact of changes in the distribution system (e.g., transportation routes, warehouse capacity).
  • Technology & Automation:
    • Leverage software tools and automation technologies (e.g., WMS, TMS, RFID, robotics) to improve process efficiency and accuracy.
    • Work with IT teams to implement new tools or improve existing systems to streamline distribution processes.
    • Analyze data from distribution management software to identify trends and areas for improvement.
  • Performance Metrics & Reporting:
    • Develop key performance indicators (KPIs) for the distribution process (e.g., order cycle time, transportation costs, delivery accuracy).
    • Create dashboards and regular performance reports to track distribution metrics and communicate progress on optimization initiatives.
    • Conduct periodic reviews of distribution operations and present findings and recommendations to senior leadership.
  • Continuous Improvement:
    • Promote a culture of continuous improvement in the distribution team, fostering collaboration and innovation across all levels.
    • Lead or facilitate root cause analysis for recurring operational issues, such as late deliveries, inventory inaccuracies, and transportation delays.
    • Recommend and implement best practices in distribution operations to drive sustainable improvements.
  • Project Management:
    • Lead and manage distribution optimization projects from planning through execution, ensuring they are completed on time and within budget.
    • Work with external partners, suppliers, and vendors to assess opportunities for collaboration and process improvement.
    • Conduct cost-benefit analysis to evaluate the financial impact of proposed changes and ensure the optimal allocation of resources.

 

Qualifications:

  • Education:
    • Preferred Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering, Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Operations Research, or a related field.
    • Certifications in Lean Six Sigma (Green Belt, Black Belt), PMP, or similar process improvement frameworks are preferred.
  • Experience:
    • Minimum of 10 years of experience in process optimization, logistics, distribution, or supply chain engineering.
    • Proven experience working with warehouse management systems (WMS), transportation management systems (TMS), Labor Management Systems (LMS) or similar distribution software.
    • Hands-on experience with process modeling and simulation tools (e.g., Arena, Simul8, etc.) is a plus.
  • Skills:
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex data and make data-driven decisions.
    • Proficiency in process improvement methodologies such as Lean, Six Sigma, or Kaizen.
    • Experience with logistics and distribution optimization techniques, including transportation routing, inventory management, and demand forecasting.
    • Advanced Excel skills and familiarity with business intelligence tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI) is a plus.
    • Strong project management skills and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Preferred:
    • Experience in warehousing, fulfillment, and distribution sites for both consumer (B2C) and retail customers (B2B).
    • Experience as an Operations leader in one or multiple of the above areas in addition to process improvement experience/management.
    • Experience with site transitions and start-ups
    • Knowledge of global logistics standards, international shipping, and customs regulations is a plus.
