Description
This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Under the supervision of the Director of Sports, the Sports Coach is responsible for leading small group sports clinics and lessons for youth participants in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures.

Requirements
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
- Lead small group sessions in a safe, organized, and fun environment.
- Encourage skill development, teamwork, sportsmanship, and confidence.
- Set up and clean up equipment before and after sessions.
- Reports any incidents or injuries in accordance with the YMCA Safety Plan and/or Facility Emergency Plan.
- Exhibits professionalism in interactions with members, participants, and YMCA employees.
- Demonstrates and upholds the YMCA’s core values and guiding principles of Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility at all times.
- WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- Positive, team-based atmosphere with other YMCA staff and coaches
- May be required to sit, stand, stoop, or kneel for extended periods of time.
- Physical mobility in a fast paced environment.
- Active and hands-on, with lots of movement and interaction.
- Must be able to see, hear, and communicate clearly and be able to hear noises and signals.
- Must be able to communicate clearly with members and staff.
- Moderate to loud noise levels.
NECESSARY SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum age of 16 years old.
- High school diploma or current enrollment (preferred for ages 18+).
- Prior experience playing, coaching, or instructing in sports.
- Strong understanding of fundamentals in sports.
- Ability to plan and lead age-appropriate drills and skill development activities.
- Clear communication skills with youth, parents, and coworkers.
PREFEREED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
- Possession of Spanish language both written and spoken.
- CPR/AED certification (provided upon hire).
CHILD ABUSE PREVENTION AND REQUIRED TRAININGS & CERTIFICATIONS
The Bloomington-Normal YMCA adheres to the strictest regulations pertaining to Child Abuse Prevention and requires all staff and volunteers to complete Child Abuse Prevention Training at time of hire and on an annual basis. Other required trainings and certifications, provided by the YMCA during on-boarding or within the first 60 days of employment, include: Illinois Mandated Reporter Certification, Illinois Sexual Harassment and Discrimination Training, CPR/AED/First Aid certification, and OSHA training including Bloodborne Pathogens.
