As Manager of The Tax Institute, you’ll lead a team of credentialed tax industry professionals who provide expert insights on complex tax topics, support strategic initiatives, and help shape the voice of H&R Block in the tax space. This role blends deep technical expertise with leadership, communication, and cross-functional collaboration. You’ll be a key player in translating complex tax law into clear, actionable guidance for internal and external audiences.
Day to day you'll...
- Lead and develop a high-performing team of permanent and seasonal credentialed tax industry professionals
- Interpret and explain complex tax law across personal, corporate, partnership, fiduciary, estate, gift, and international taxation
- Write clear, plain-language content that makes complex tax topics accessible to diverse audiences
- Engage in strategic discussions with senior leaders, providing expert counsel and insight
- Manage multiple concurrent projects and programs, making timely, informed decisions under pressure
- Communicate effectively across all levels of the organization, including media and external stakeholders
- Foster a collaborative, productive team environment and serve as a positive ambassador for The Tax Institute
- Translate technical information into meaningful messages for geographically and functionally diverse audiences
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field or the equivalent through a combination of education and related work experience
- Ability to gather, process and effectively communicate complex information – all within a changing environment – and make messages meaningful and relevant for a geographically and functionally diverse workforce is essential
- Ability to manage multiple critical, concurrent projects and programs, applying expertise and analytical reasoning to make concrete and defendable decisions while adhering to established timeframes
- Demonstrated ability to lead, develop, and inspire cross-functional teams, fostering a collaborative environment that drives performance, accountability, and professional growth
- Credential regulated under Circular 230 (Enrolled Agent, CPA, or Attorney) or CFP credential
- Effective oral, written and interpersonal communication skills. Effective presentation skills to all levels, from senior management to line/staff associates, as well as journalists
- 8 years minimum related work experience
- Must be able to hold strategic discussions as well as effectively and confidently communicate, counsel and work with senior leaders of H&R Block
- Must be a self-motivated, self-directed and highly organized individual who will promote a productive, collaborative workplace and be a positive ambassador
- Operational knowledge of tax law and regulations sufficient to understand and explain elements of personal, corporate, partnership, fiduciary, estate, gift, and international taxation
- Writing skills to explain complex tax information in a clear manner and in plain language
- Competency with full suite of Microsoft Office product suite, with specific focus on Excel, OneNote and Teams
- Juris Doctorate Degree or a Master’s Degree in Taxation, Accounting or Finance
