About the Department
- Must be a current BSO employee who has successfully completed their probationary period by the listed closing date.
- A minimum of three (3) years progressively responsible experience in the judicial system, to include coordination, execution, and service of legal documents.
- An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered.
Position Duties
Under direction, the purpose of the position is to carry out tasks relating to the legal requirements of the execution and service of legal documents. Employees in this classification perform moderately complex to advanced administrative work in coordinating unit functions. Position is responsible for the preparation, review, correction, recording and distribution of civil writs. Performs related work as directed.

Prioritizes tasks pertaining to the agency's civil process function.
Oversees receipt, processing, preparation and recording of all writs and legal documents for the unit.
Acts as intermediary and maintains contact between civil deputies, attorneys, court or agents involved in seizure of property, difficult evictions, or other process issues.
Liaison with attorneys, plaintiffs, and judges in and out of state.
Sets and examines statutory bonds, bankruptcy filings and personal property exemptions presented by defendants.
Determines priority of liens, determines ownership of properties to be levied, and schedules appraisals when necessary.
Prepares and publishes sales notices in local media pursuant to applicable State Statutes; distributes sales notices via certified mail.
Coordinates the advertisement and for sale of items real or personal seized under execution and levy pursuant to applicable State Statutes; calculates costs and payoffs to satisfy judgments.
Coordinates attachment and removal of property, impounding property and collection of funds; coordinates payment of storage charges for property held under agency authority.
Coordinates collection of bid monies and disbursement of funds for services rendered, deposit refunds, and satisfactions.
Reviews for accuracy and proofs all court orders and writs for proper execution, thereby ensuring legal protection for the agency and civil process unit.
Prepares, approves, and coordinates distribution of writs and related legal documents to appropriate departments for service of process and delivery.
May be called to testify in court under subpoena on matters concerning enforcement of civil procedure.
Maintains periodic statistical reports pertaining to workload or the assigned section.
Assists the public, unit personnel and inter-departmental personnel with information and direction according to the nature of the concern/inquiry.
Provides assistance to unit personnel in the receipt, process, preparation and recording of writs and related legal documents as needed.
Responds to telephone inquires concerning legal documents; provides resolution, information and direction accordingly.
May supervise the work of Civil Process Specialist staff in absence of the Coordinator.
Ensures the accurate maintenance of departmental records and updates such as needed.

Performs related duties as directed.
Tasks involve the ability to exert light physical effort in sedentary to light work, but which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of light weight (5-10 pounds). May require physical agility and balance for tasks, such as climbing, kneeling, bending, stooping and/or reaching for objects at or above floor level. Tasks involve extended periods of time at a keyboard or workstation. Work is performed in usual office conditions with rare exposure to disagreeable environmental factors.

Other Qualifications
