Position Summary
The Tax Manager is responsible for ensuring full compliance with all state and local tax requirements impacting our operating entities and managed hotels. This role oversees tax filings, assists with sales tax audits, and partners closely with both property- and corporate-level stakeholders to ensure accurate, timely, and efficient tax processes. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, proactive, and skilled at process improvement to support the continued growth of the organization.
Essential Functions
- Gather financial reports and prepare, review, and analyze tax work papers for operating entities and managed hotels.
- Ensure accurate and timely filing of all sales, use, occupancy, hospitality, and related tax returns.
- Investigate and resolve tax collection issues or discrepancies.
- Collaborate with the Cash Management team and Regional Controllers to coordinate tax payments.
- Communicate effectively with General Managers, executives, and other internal stakeholders on tax-related matters.
- Prepare supporting documentation and respond to inquiries during sales tax and related audits.
- Identify opportunities to streamline processes and implement ongoing improvements to enhance tax compliance and efficiency.
- Manage tax-related correspondence, including receipt and distribution of mail as needed.
- Perform other duties and projects as assigned.
Education & Experience Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- 1–2 years of experience filing sales and use tax returns; prior experience with hotel occupancy, hospitality, and other industry-specific taxes strongly preferred.
- Proficiency with financial accounting systems and Microsoft Office Suite, with advanced Excel skills required.
- Strong customer service orientation with a demonstrated ability to build and maintain relationships with executives, team members, and external partners.
- Excellent verbal and written communication, organizational, and presentation skills.
- Proven ability to manage multiple projects, prioritize effectively, and meet deadlines.
- High level of initiative with the ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team environment.
- Demonstrated ability to influence and partner effectively across all levels of the organization.
