The successful candidate will be responsible for the daily operations of a DTP Plate Processing Workflow in addition to art file revisions and color proof output. Responsibilities include:
- Adheres to and participates in all safety, SQF,and HACCP policies/procedures/guidelines.
- Work area is kept clean and well-organized
- Operates all graphic-related equipment in a safe and efficient manner
- Immediately reports quality issues to Supervisor and/or designate
- Operates Graphic design software and hardware
- Maintains file organization/storage processes
- Maintains attention to detail and quality during artwork approval process
- Communicates respectfully with all Hood Packaging Corporation employees, contractors, visitors and customers
- Able to work on a team and independently
- Generates dielines, pre-press artwork files, inkjet proofs and plate production files
- In-depth knowledge all packaging products and requirements for Calgary Plastic and Calgray Paper Divisions
- Understands and operates color management software and hardware
- Assembles and performs quality inspections of ink-jet proof(s) for customer artwork approval
- Follows Graphic Department procedures and processes
- Knowledge of plate material and thermal flexographic film production
- Attention to detail to ensure consistent artwork quality
- Performs quality checks of artwork, inkjet proofs and plates
- Inspects each plate for accuracy and quality
- Applies RIP and imposition parameters for digital graphics files for flexographic plate output
- Operates/maintains plate equipment
- Cuts, labels/engraves plates
- Daily department cleaning
- Weekly safety/quality inspections of plate equipment
- Operates manual pallet jacklift/blotter lift in a safe manner after successful training is completed
- Able to create plate cost estimates for Customer Service/Sales departments
- Able to source Work Orders in QAD when required
- Oversees email correspondence and job docket management during Supervisor abscenceOther duties as assigned and/or required
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Education and training are required for the position
Education
- Graphic Design Certification or equivalent
- Knowledge of flexographic plates and processes
Minimum experience
- 3-5 years related Graphic Design experience
- Pre-press and packaging design knowledge
- Knowledge of flexographic plates and processes
- Proficiently operate Adobe Software (Illustrator, Photoshop, etc.)
- Efficiently operate MAC and PC computer hardware and accessories (printers, scanners)
- Experience with Kodak Prinergy/Esko software/hardware and color management is an asset
- Knowledge of process print theory
- Excellent attention to detail and quality
- Excellent and respectful written and verbal communication skills
