ELECTRIC SUBSTATION TECH chez Fayetteville Public Works Commission

Join Fayetteville Public Works Commission (PWC) as an Electric Substation Technician and contribute to the construction, repair, and maintenance of electrical substations and transformers. This role involves hands-on work with energized systems, troubleshooting equipment, and supporting the reliability of our electric infrastructure.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

• Good knowledge of safety rules, regulations, and procedures.
• Working knowledge of methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in the trade.
• Ability to learn electrical theory as applied to transformers and switches.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and sketches.
• Effective oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to work in confined spaces and perform heavy manual tasks in varying weather conditions.
• Ability to maintain effective working relationships with all levels of employees.

Minimum Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent, plus three (3) years of maintenance/modification experience with electrical facilities.
• Equivalent combinations of education, training, and experience will be considered.

Special Requirements:

• Must pass a Functional Employment Test (FET).
• Must possess and maintain a valid North Carolina Class A CDL.

Physical Requirements:

• Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position.

Safety Hazards:

• Exposure to inclement weather, loud noises, vibration, moving mechanical parts, electrical current, chemicals, fumes, dust, confined spaces, and other hazards.

Protective Equipment:

• As required by the PWC Safety Manual.
