The OR/PACU (RN) Charge Nurse is responsible for the daily operations of the surgery center including overseeing supply chains, ordering of scheduled medications, regulatory record keeping, and staff scheduling. Position is a daily mix of patient care and administrative duties. Collaborating with physicians and multidisciplinary team members to ensure optimal care of the patient is crucial. Must be a good communicator and possess the ability to problem solve in real time.
We are seeking a full-time OR/PACU (RN) Charge Nurse to join our Ambulatory Surgery Center team in Carmel, Indiana. The schedule is 4 days per week, Monday-Friday 7:00am-3:00pm (specific days to be determined), with no holidays or weekends unless needed for staffing purposes.
How You'll Contribute:
We always do whatever it takes, even if it isn’t specifically our “job.” In general, the OR/PACU (RN) Charge Nurse is responsible for:
- Foster quality patient services and clinical operations by effective communication with staff and physicians
- Ensure adequate and appropriate ASC & clinical staffing coverage to provide the highest quality patient care and services
- Coordinate and facilitate the effective delivery of all patient services by regularly monitoring patient flow and program operations
- Responsible for assisting with the coordination and the training/orientation of new ASC & clinical staff
- Support the Quality Assessment and Improvement process
- Serves as a resource for questions and issues related to a range of ASC and clinical issues
- Monitors preoperative statistics, i.e. number of cases, procedures, patients, complications (i.e. infection, bleeding)
- Reviews OR schedules for completeness, correctness, appropriate flow, etc.
- Identifies patient care requirements by establishing personal rapport and collaboration with all team members
- Participates in daily staffing as needed
- Maintain clinical supplies and medication orders
- Maintain regular communication with supervisor and reporting
- Strong clinical skills, self-motivated and disciplined
- Maintains OSHA and AAAHC guidelines
- Other duties as assigned
What You'll Bring:
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or equivalent required
- Active RN State Licensure, ACLS and BLS certification
- Minimum of 2 years supervisory or charge experience required, with one year of supervision in a perioperative arena preferred and experience in women’s health care preferred
- Leadership
- Strong clinical knowledge and expertise in ambulatory surgery and post-operative care
- Clinical Expertise in-depth knowledge of ambulatory surgery procedures, post-operative care, and anesthesia management
- Proficiency in evidence-based nursing practices, patient assessment, and care planning
- Knowledge of performance improvement methodologies and experience in driving continuous quality improvement initiatives
- Ability to advocate for patients' physical, psychological, and spiritual needs, promoting a patient-centered care approach
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills for interacting with staff, patients, and physicians
- Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills to make decisions in complex healthcare situations
- Skill in resolving conflicts and handling patient complaints professionally and efficiently
- Capability to perform under pressure and manage challenging situations during surgical procedures and post-anesthesia care
