SENIOR FINANCIAL ANALYST chez SCO

JOB TITLE: Senior Financial Analyst

DEPARTMENT: Finance

SALARY: 70,000 annually

LOCATION: Garden City, New York

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:  The Senior Financial Analyst for Shelters & Homeless Services is responsible for supporting the Fiscal Director within the SHS portfolio.  The position is responsible for G/L analysis, claiming, monitoring of receivables, journal entries and financial analysis and reporting.

REPORTS TO:  Fiscal Director of Shelters & Homeless Services

SUPERVISES:  N/A

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

• Analyze, adjust and prepare various internal/external financial schedules and reports.
• Review transactions for compliance with applicable grant and contract terms as well as internal policies and procedures.
• Become familiar with all aspects of the programs overseen in the unit including regulations and reporting requirements to funders. Develop an understanding of all rate methodologies or key components which must be analyzed (i.e. days of care, etc.)
• Examine and ensure the reliability and integrity of the financial reports. Work with program leadership to identify potential general ledger discrepancies and recommend new procedures where necessary.
• Research and assure that billing, collection, and revenue amounts are accurate and that billing is submitted to the funder on time.  
• Provide explanations and recommendations for variances between actual program operating and budget.
• Prepare budgets when required (annual agency budget, budgets for funders, etc.)
• Prepare journal entries to reclassify expenses where required.
• Work to improve the overall efficiency and effectiveness of the fiscal group.
• Perform all other duties assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required along with 5 years of experience in a similar function for a complex organization such as SCO. This position required great attention to detail along with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment as well as the ability to communicate professionally and effectively. Requires excellent Excel Skills, knowledge of nonprofit GAAP and knowledge of financial software and applications.

WORKING CONDITIONS

This is hybrid position that may require in-person attendance at our administrative headquarters in Garden City, NY

SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITY

Budgeting, vouchering, financial reporting, and financial analysis of operations. Strict attention to detail, ability to summarize and explain the meaning of financial results, strong accounting and analytical skills with a high degree of accuracy on a continuous and consistent basis.
