Primary purpose: Manage a lumberyard production operation.


Skills and Responsibilities:

  • Safety Management: Ensure the safety of all individuals in the yard, including staff, customers, and the public. Implement safety protocols for drivers and loaded customers leaving the yard.
  • Staff Hiring and Training: Recruit, hire, and train yard and delivery staff, ensuring a well-equipped and knowledgeable team.
  • Inventory Management: Oversee accurate receiving, handling, and care of inventory, maintaining inventory levels and gross profit percentages efficiently.
  • Dispatching and Shipping: Manage dispatching, shipping, and maintenance of forklifts and trucks of various sizes, ensuring operational efficiency.
  • Invoicing and Metrics Management: Ensure accurate and timely invoicing. Monitor and manage metrics such as payroll to sales, trucks to sales, and forklifts to sales ratios.
  • Security Management: Secure the yard to prevent theft and minimize damage from weather and other causes.
  • Relationship Building: Establish, build, and maintain relationships with customers, customer service representatives, and vendors, demonstrating excellent customer service.
  • Goods Movement Management: Manage the movement of goods into and out of production facilities, ensuring operational efficiency, effectiveness, and sustainability.
  • Inventory Planning: Plan, prepare, and execute perpetual inventory management, ensuring accurate stock levels and availability.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Adapt to other duties as assigned, demonstrating flexibility and willingness to take on new challenges.
  • Utilize background knowledge in residential construction to enhance operations and customer service.
