Challenging Projects:

As a Commercial Space Strategist and Planner, you will support NATO’s efforts to implement and advance its Commercial Space Strategy and contribute to the Space Threat Operational Response (THOR) program. Your role will shape NATO’s strategic space posture through planning, engagement, and development of operational frameworks, influencing how NATO interfaces with commercial entities across space intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR); launch services; satellite manufacturing; and space resilience efforts.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the development of NATO’s Commercial Space Interface Model, shaping how commercial actors engage NATO.
  • Analyze and recommend improvements to the Commercial Integration Cell (CIC) and contractor integration processes.
  • Assist in the creation of a Continuity of Services Framework for SATCOM, ISR, and PNT across peacetime-to-conflict scenarios.
  • Facilitate workshops and engagements across NATO, Allies, and industry to identify and map commercial space capabilities and risks.
  • Develop strategic plans to address resilience, deterrence, and redundancy in commercial space services.
  • Contribute to commercial space policy recommendations, legal frameworks, and scenario-based planning.

State-of-the-Art Technology:

Work on the cutting edge of space-based ISR, satellite communications, and commercial launch integration while designing NATO's next-generation interface with the commercial space sector.

Gain hands-on experience in multi-domain integration, international policy alignment, and multinational strategic planning in support of NATO operational transformation.

You Have:

  • Active NATO Secret clearance (or eligible) and U.S. Passport with no travel restrictions.
  • 5+ years of DoD or NATO planning experience, preferably with space or aerospace systems.
  • Working knowledge of:
    • Space policy, strategy, and deterrence
    • Satellite manufacturing and launch services
    • Commercial ISR and resilient SATCOM
    • NATO stakeholder engagement processes
    • Operational planning methodologies
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and collaborative tools (MS Teams, SharePoint, etc.)
  • Excellent interpersonal communication and briefing skills, particularly in multinational environments.

Nice to Haves:

  • Experience engaging with commercial space vendors or alliances (e.g., ESA, CSpOC, DIANA).
  • Familiarity with NATO’s DDA Family of Plans or space threat playbook development.
  • Background in commercial risk frameworks or space legal/policy development.

Clearance:

Applicants must have an active NATO Secret clearance or be eligible for immediate read-in. U.S. citizens must also hold a valid U.S. Passport and meet NATO travel and clearance requirements. This is an on-site position in Norfolk, VA.
