Primary Duties/Brief Description of Work:
As a crew member of the Municipal Cemeteries Section, you will participate in a variety of skilled and unskilled maintenance tasks associated with the field operation and maintenance of the City of Greensboro’s four (4) municipal cemeteries. Your duties will include performing all ground maintenance tasks, operating specialized lawn care and/or grounds maintenance equipment to include: commercial mowers, dump trailers, tractors, backhoe, trenchers, line trimmers and power tools. This position will also assist in opening and closing graves for interments. The cemetery crew member will perform daily cemetery clean up and set up tasks such as placing signs for services, providing assistance to vault companies and funeral homes as needed, emptying trash receptacles, removing dead floral arrangements and prohibited items from graves, cleaning up storm debris, general policing and cleaning of grounds for trash, assist in pesticide and fertilizer application programs, water line repairs, construction projects (carpentry), welding, and small engine repair.
The physical duties include standing, stooping, climbing, walking on uneven surfaces, shoveling and heavy lifting up to 50 lbs. Work is performed outside in all weather conditions. Work schedule includes rotating weekend coverage. This job is classified as service critical and employee will be subject to emergency call out for situations such as snow and ice removal or storm clean up. Class A Commercial Driver’s License is required within the first six (6) months of employment.

Minimum Qualifications:
- High School Diploma/GED.
- Valid Driver’s License.
- Experience in commercial grounds and landscape maintenance.
Preferred Qualifications:
- 5+ years of commercial grounds maintenance experience.
- Experience using commercial mowers, line trimmers, tractors, and other landscape tools.
- Carpentry/Welding/Plumbing/Small Engine Repair experience.
- Experience reading and understanding maps.
