University Physicians Association is seeking qualified applicants for Registered Nurse (RN) position for University Colon & Rectal Surgeons (UCRS) located within the UT Medical Center.
Position Summary:
The RN will work closely with colorectal surgeons and the care team to coordinate and provide nursing care to patients in a fast-paced clinical environment. This role requires strong assessment skills, patient education, procedural assistance, and the ability to support patients throughout the surgical care continuum.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct nursing assessments and patient triage, both in-person and via phone
- Assist in minor office procedures (e.g., anoscopy, wound care, drain management)
- Educate patients and families about surgical procedures, pre- and post-op instructions, ostomy care, and medication management
- Coordinate preoperative testing, imaging, and follow-up appointments
- Monitor and document patient progress and communicate changes to the care team
- Collaborate with physicians, nurse practitioners, and administrative staff to ensure continuity of care
- Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation in the EMR
- Participate in quality improvement and infection control initiatives as required
Requirements
- Required:
- Current RN license in the state of [State]
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing from an accredited program
- BLS certification (current)
- Minimum 1 year of nursing experience in a clinic or surgical setting
- Preferred:
- Experience in colorectal surgery, GI, or wound/ostomy care preferred
- Knowledge of Cerner or other EMR systems
- Certified Wound Ostomy Continence Nurse (CWOCN) a plus
