TITLE: CUSTODIAN (Student-Worker)
REPORTS TO: Principal/District Head Custodian
EMPLOYMENT STATUS: Regular, part-time
FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt
POSITION SUMMARY: Perform the cleaning and other tasks assigned for the proper upkeep of a building and its grounds.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Clean the assigned areas of the building as instructed, performing such activities as sweeping, dusting, and scrubbing.
- Load and unload supplies, furniture, and equipment, including food and other cafeteria supplies when needed.
- Care for the lawn and shrubs; remove snow, ice, and litter, and perform other outdoor tasks, as assigned.
- Assist with the preparation and clean-up related to school or community extended-day activities.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Maintain an appropriately neat and clean personal appearance. May be required to wear a uniform on the job.
- Observe all safety and health regulations of the school district. May be required to assure the appropriate labeling of hazardous materials.
- Maintain a positive relationship with staff, students, and parents.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal or, if applicable, the Head Custodian.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Marysville student in good standing or a Marysville graduate enrolled in a Post-Secondary school
- Must have an approved work permit.
- Must complete a ScreenPointe.
- Must be age 16 or older.
- Must have a valid Ohio Driver’s License.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Basic skills in repairing, cleaning, lawn care, and snow removal.
- Ability to follow instructions and complete a sequence of tasks.
- Ability to operate the equipment listed below.
EQUIPMENT OPERATED:
- Cleaning equipment, such as vacuum cleaners, mops, and carpet cleaning machines.
- Basic hand tools.
- Mowing and snow removal equipment.
- Other tools and equipment associated with building and grounds upkeep.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Student worker shift is not more than 3 hours per day to be completed before or after the elementary school day
- Exposure to all weather conditions.
- Some work in confined spaces, dark spaces, and dirty work areas.
- Exposure to hazardous driving conditions.
- Regular requirement to lift, push, pull, and carry tools and equipment up to 50 pounds.
- Regular requirement to stand, walk, sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, handle, read, speak, and hear.
- Exposure to chemicals and contaminants, such as cleaning products, weed killers, and flammable and combustible liquids.
- Use of potentially hazardous equipment; for example, platforms, ladders, electrically powered equipment, and electrical wiring.
- Exposure to blood or other bodily fluids and tissue.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Length of Employment: One Year Limited Contract (seasonal, during the school year).
Salary: MEVSD Student Worker Rate
