Job Title: Strength and Conditioning Coach (SCC)

Summary- This is a contingent opportunity and would begin work upon the contract award.

The Strength and Conditioning Coach (SCC) functions as an integrated member of a multi-disciplinary team focused on optimizing Soldier readiness and performance within the Army's Holistic Health and Fitness (H2F) System. The system empowers and equips Soldiers to take charge of their health, fitness, and well-being to optimize individual performance while preventing injury and disease.

As an integral part of the H2F Performance Team, the SCC shall establish and administer effective strength and conditioning training programs designed to maximize physical performance and reduce the risk of Musculoskeletal (MSK) injuries of Brigade (BDE)/Area Support Team (AST) personnel.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist the Lead SCC with developing, coordinating, executing, and managing recommended and approved H2F System strength and conditioning programs
  • Develop lines of communication within the BDE/AST, BN and Company leadership, including participating in associated training and other meetings
  • Coordinate, execute, and manage approved physical performance optimization training programs within the framework of the unit’s training/operational schedule, battle rhythm, and culture
  • Develop and recommend evidence-based, periodized strength and conditioning programs focused on unit mission and individual Soldier tasks in accordance with the H2F System
  • As required, submit strength and conditioning programs, with quantified training loads, to Lead SCC for approval and implement upon Government approval
  • Assist the Lead SCC to develop, coordinate, and execute approved training programs for Soldiers with physical limitations
  • Track and document Soldier/unit progression on a regular basis. Recommend opportunities for H2F System improvement to the Government
  • Coordinate scheduling of facilities for Government approved courses, training, and classes as applicable
  • Coach and mentor the unit fitness leaders and H2F Integrator
  • Identify and recommend opportunities for H2F System improvement to Lead SCC
  • Participate in periodic meetings with the BDE/AST PD, H2F Performance Team, and unit (BDE/AST, BN, or Company) leadership to provide Soldier progression and recommendation reports
  • Participate in program quality assurance of the training programs per guiding instructions provided by the BDE/AST PD

Supervisory Responsibilities   

  • This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

Required Education and/or Experience Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
  • A certification by the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) as a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) or by the Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coaches Association (CSCCA) as a Strength and Conditioning Coach Certified (SCCC)
  • Three or more years of relevant professional experience within the last five years working in a strength and conditioning coach capacity within a health/well-being program with athletes or government entities. Employment related to internships or graduate work for up to one year will be considered towards relevant experience. Requirement may be waived for SCC interns or graduate assistants meeting certain criteria.
  • Have a current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification with Automated External Defibrillators (AED) certification from the American Heart Association/American Red Cross
  • Capable of observing, demonstrating, and correcting Soldier’s performance of training/exercise techniques and form
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite to include Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Strong interpersonal, oral communication and written communication skills in English
  • Must be able to adhere to the physical demands which are essential for the position with or without accommodation

Preferred Qualifications

  • At least one year working directly with Service Members in a performance and/or resilience training and education setting
  • Previous Military service

Other Requirements

  • Must pass a pre-employment background check and be able to obtain and maintain a government clearance.
  • All positions that require access to U.S. Government facilities and systems require U.S. Citizenship, and reliable transportation to travel to assigned locations and nearby facilities.

Physical Demands: Works in office areas. Sits, stands, bends, lifts, and moves intermittently during working hours. Uses a computer, telephones, copiers, printers, and other office equipment. Be capable of properly lifting and manipulating loads or weights up to 45 pounds and capable of meeting physical demands of training in all types of weather with Soldiers including the ability to hike over rough terrain, function in austere environments to observe Soldier training evolutions and to train, educate, coach, and mentor.

Services may be provided in the following locations: fitness centers/gyms, BDE/AST, or administrative areas, outdoors, ranges, field training environments, and at the Soldier Performance Readiness Center (SPRC).
