About the Department


The Outreach & Community Supports (OCS) department is seeking a Principal Administrative Assistant to join their team. This position will support departmental leadership in shaping infrastructure, policy, and best practices while ensuring alignment with audit and compliance standards.

Location and hours:
This position is hybrid and will be performed both on-site at 625 4th Ave South, Minneapolis, MN 55415, and remote as job duties require. Work hours are Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. While this position is designated as hybrid, based on current requirements hires must reside in or relocate to Minnesota or Wisconsin.

This is a full-time, benefit earning position. You must be a current regular or probationary employee of the Outreach & Community Supports department to apply for this position. Limited duration employees are not eligible. 
This position is internally classified as an Administrative Assistant, Principal.

In this position, you will:
  • Assist the director with infrastructure building and capacity, recommendations on policy, procedure, and best practices for the department. Review and propose/evaluate complex policy alternatives on behalf of the department.
  • Assist in the development of policies, procedures, and plans for programmatic implementation to ensure the department is aligning with Hennepin County audit and compliance.
  • Assist the director with coordination and development of complex multi-unit research designs, methodology, and data collection systems.
  • Collect and interpret data and information from a variety of sources. Work directly with Hennepin County Disparity Reduction Data Analytics team on data collection.
  • Manage county-wide and community initiatives on behalf of a department as it relates to the department's federated model and enterprise-wide efforts.
  • Assist with a wide range of engagement events, including attending community meetings, tabling, door knocking, facilitating listening sessions, and conducting surveys.
  • Assist director with the implementation of the department enterprise-wide federated model and work with other Hennepin County departments to develop alignment on community engagement.
  • Work with other Hennepin County departments to analyze and interpret current and proposed laws, rules, and legislation as it directly relates to how the OCS department does business.
  • Provide support to the OCS director on county-wide or community committees and task forces and provide support for social media and other communications needs.
  • Provide supervision or work direction to professional and/or support staff.
Need to have:
  • One of the following:
    • Nine years or more of experience in general administrative work relating to the management of departmental/organizational operations or in a specialty area appropriate to the position. Note: General administrative work is defined as the administration and/or management of programs, policies, and/or budgets. 
    • Bachelor's degree or higher in business administration or other field appropriate to the position and five years or more of experience in general administrative work relating to the management of departmental/organizational operations or in a specialty area appropriate to the position.

    • Interpreting current and proposed laws, rules, and legislation.
    • With project management.
    • Collecting and interpreting data and information from a variety of sources.
  • Ability to:
    • Facilitate discussions and collaborate with all levels of business and technical staff.
    • Problem-solve with a process improvement mindset.
  • Effective communication and customer service skills.
  • Establish and carry out effective working relationships with employees, other professionals, agencies, and the public.
