Reports to: Senior Manager, Pharmacy Quality and Accreditation

Purpose

The Senior Quality Specialist is an integral part of the quality team within PANTHERx Rare Pharmacy. Under the direction of the Senior Manager, Pharmacy Quality and Accreditation, and working collaboratively with individuals across the company, this position is responsible for leading a variety of quality initiatives and projects for PANTHERx.   The Senior Quality Specialist performs quality audits, compiles metrics that will most effectively provide insight into performance trends, works collaboratively with others to identify clinical and/or process improvement opportunities, leads and/or contributes to improvement efforts, and monitors the effectiveness of improvements. 

Responsibilities

  • Reviews and interprets accreditation standards and guides internal action(s) based on the standards; accreditations may include specialty pharmacy, rare disease, and Medicare Part B DMEPOS.
  • Manages the company’s internal preparation for accreditations; communicates with the surveyor(s); tracks progress and outstanding items; ensures that documents are submitted timely; coordinates interviews with staff members as needed.
  • Measures workflow efficiency, implements improvement plans and measures effectiveness. 
  • Develops and executes audit schedule that may include quality and process audits, equipment and packaging validations, and medication storage requirements. 
  • Reviews deviation data and performs the following actions: (a) conducts a root cause analysis; (b) develops an action plan for the deviation; and (c) develops a remediation plan to prevent recurrences.   
  • Identifies quality metrics to use in conjunction with the quality management program.  
  • Collects, validates, analyzes, and interprets quality data to determine quality performance trends and opportunities for clinical and/or process improvements to improve the overall quality of services provided.
  • Leads and coordinates internal quality improvement efforts and proactively seeks quality improvement opportunities.
  • Collaborates with other departments to ensure that patient safety and quality program goals are met. 
  • Maintains knowledge of accreditation standards during the accreditation period and identifies opportunities for additional training and/or knowledge sharing across the company. 
  • Serves as project manager for quality and/or regulatory audits conducted by external third parties as needed. 
  • Occasional travel to PANTHER headquarters as required.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 Required Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree in health science, business, or related field; or Certified Pharmacy Technician.
  • Minimum of five (5) years in healthcare or quality role managing projects of at least moderate complexity with demonstrated success. 
  • Previous experience managing external regulatory and/or quality audits. 
  • High degree of self-direction and ability to work independently with little or no supervision. 
  • Strong working knowledge of quality improvement and performance management concepts. 
  • Demonstrated motivation to learn through self-direct study, professional networking and attending relevant conferences and webinars. 
  • Strong ability to communicate effectively in a manner that is clear, logical and consistent. 
  • Proven ability to work effectively in a collaborative, cross-functional team environment. 
  • Ability to collect, analyze, review and interpret operational metrics.
  • Skilled in presenting operational metrics to stakeholder groups and confidently leading related discussions.
  • High degree of organization and follow through. 
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, adjusting priorities as needed to meet project deadlines.
  • Proficient in the use of Electronic Medical Record (EMR) software and other types of software applications. 
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Power Point).

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Bachelor’s degree in health science, business, or related field.
  • Previous experience in a role with direct patient contact and pharmacy workflows.
  • CPHQ (Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality).

Work Environment

This position works in a home or professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. 

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, see, talk, or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands and fingers to handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. Visual acuity is necessary for tasks such as reading or working with various forms of data for extended periods of time.
