We are seeking a Head of Production for its subsidiary company, Whittlesey Landscape Supplies & Recycling. This role is based out of our Austin, TX manufacturing facility. Relocation may be available within the United States for this opportunity. In this position, you will be responsible for overseeing and directing the production of materials at Whittlesey Landscape Supplies & Recycling. You will lead our production staff, oversee implementation, and drive improvement of manufacturing processes across Whittlesey, with preferred experience in bulk materials production (mulch and soil) and bagging operations.
IN THIS ROLE YOU WILL:
- Provide operational management leadership for production operations and mentor / develop supervisors and team leaders, while reporting to the Area Production Manager and ensuring operations are in alignment with their overall guidance
- Drive safety, quality, and productivity performance to achieve positive results in production areas. Work to continuously improve in all areas and provide regular reports to the Area Production Manager
- Evaluate and monitor production flow to anticipate bottlenecks and disconnects that will affect output
- Ensure a positive approach to employee relations for all employees. Maintain effective lines of communication with employees, leads, and peers. Build rapport and influence others in a positive manner
- Administer all policies and procedures as established fairly and consistently
- Lead by example; coach and mentor all assigned employees
- Support safety initiatives; policies and procedures to ensure operations are safe and consistent with company and governmental standards and help reduce accidents and injuries
- Accountable for managing people, setting direction and deploying resources; responsible for performance evaluation and pay reviews of assigned staff
- Responsibilities are within Manufacturing/Operations Function as a generalist or in a combination of Disciplines
- Leverage both change management & project management skills to plan, organize, and lead various capital improvement projects including equipment replacements and upgrades with the Area Production Manager
- Troubleshoot and lead problem-solving activities to identify root cause issue and propose recommended solutions to the Area Production Manager
- Proactively drive improvements related to the processes, equipment/machine operations, and material flow to support production
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to manage the installation and implementation of new equipment
- Manage the documentation of both legacy and new manufacturing processes across the facility, including work instructions and standard operation procedures
• Minimum of six (6) years of experience in a manufacturing environment
• Minimum two (2) years of experience leading a team in a production or manufacturing environment
• Bachelor’s degree Master’s degree preferred in manufacturing, engineering, or a related discipline from an accredited institution
• Presentation and communication skills
• Basic computer skills - Excel, Word, Outlook
• Strong communication, organizational and time management skills.
• Ability to communicate value proposition and differentiate products and services
• Ability to think quickly and make decisions
