Job Description:
Job Scope
The maintenance technician is responsible for performing highly diversified duties to install, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain production and facility equipment according to safety, predictive, and productive maintenance systems and processes to support the achievement of the site’s business goals and objectives.
Minimum Qualifications
Education
High School/Vocational School Graduate or GED Required, Associate’s degree preferred
Completion of a craft apprenticeship, or 5+ years of experience and production maintenance experience
Experience
Minimum 5+ years of experience in production/manufacturing environment; strong hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical, mechanical and industrial skills; experience in robotics, troubleshooting PLCs, and basics in welding preferred
Skills and Abilities
- Must be able to independently manage tasks, prioritize workload, and adapt to changing operational needs with minimal direction or supervision
- Detail oriented
- Proficient in verbal and written communication in both individual and group settings
- Read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, quality and ISO documents, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
- Proficient in computer programs such as Microsoft Office Suite, as well as the ability to learn and adapt to new computer systems
- Able to solve practical problems and interpret a variety of instructions (i.e. oral, written, and print)
- Must be able to learn and safely use material handler equipment; able to obtain and sustain a forklift operator certification
- Must be able to read and interpret engineering drawings and blueprints along with the use of jigs, rules, tapes, combination squares, calipers, and gages to recognize, measure and record tolerances to specification.
- Must be able use various hand and power tools including clamps, drivers, wrenches, taps, grinders, brushes, saws, stud welders, spot welders, hampers, torque wrenches, etc.
- Must have strong knowledge of electrical systems, motors, drives, and control circuits (robotics strongly recommended)
- Must have mechanical aptitude, with the ability to work across multiple trades (mechanical, plumbing, hydraulics, and pneumatics)
- Must have a proven ability to work safely, follow all lockout/tagout procedures, and adhere to OSHA regulations
- Must be able to participate and/or lead in safety practices and review
- Must have strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
Preferred Qualifications
Electrical Journeyman License, Weld Certification
Position Responsibilities
Departmental Responsibilities
- Participates and/or lead in safety practices and review of equipment such as fire and sprinkler systems
- Perform electrical troubleshooting, repair, and installation on industrial equipment, systems, and controls
- Conduct preventative and predictive maintenance to minimize downtime and maximize equipment reliability
- Diagnose and resolve mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical issues, as well as be able to replace or repair parts and test and make adjustments
- Ensure compliance with safety standards, electrical codes, and company policies
- Document all maintenance activities in the computerized maintenance management system (CMMS)
- Provide emergency/unscheduled repairs of production equipment during production, and perform scheduled maintenance repairs of production equipment during machine service
- Performs mechanical skills including, but not limited to, mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic troubleshooting and repairs
- Performs highly diversified duties to install and maintain production equipment and plant facility’s equipment
- Work with vendors on ordering replacement parts for needed repairs
- Use a variety of hand and power tools, electric meters, and material handling equipment in performing duties
- Detect faulty operations and defective material and report those and any unusual situations to proper supervision
- Assist in developing and scheduling preventative and predictive maintenance tasks
- Review completed work orders for accuracy
- Work with fellow teammates for property snow removal as needed
Product Development and Design
- Work closely with Operations Manager, production, and departmental engineers for final product goals and priorities
Teamwork and Collaboration
- Participate in cross-functional collaboration
- Ability to work cross functionally, outside of determined schedule, when customer/production demand requires.
- Partner with assembly, fabrication, and weld teams to proactively identify maintenance needs and recommend long-term solutions
- Collaborate with cross-functional leadership to ensure spare parts, tools, and materials are available for planned work
People Management
- Participates in and encourages continuous improvement activities and acts as a role model
- Train new and existing teammates
Continuous Improvement
- Drive continuous improvement by recommending upgrades, modifications, or process improvements to extend asset life and reduce unplanned downtime
- Monitor and analyze equipment performance data to identify trends, failure patterns, and improvement opportunities
- Review completed work orders to identify opportunities to improve job plans
Physical Requirements
- Manufacturing, non-air-conditioned environment or office environment
- PPE required: Steel-toe Shoes, Composite Electrical Hazard Safety Shoes, and eye protection. Based on job duties the following PPE could be required: Ear protection, gloves, sleeves, or welding equipment (i.e. face shield, apron).
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; use hands and arms and walk frequently on concrete floors. The employee must be able to lift and/or move up to 35 pounds.
