About the Department

PURPOSE:  The Facility Maintenance Technician performs general and detailed maintenance and repairs in the skilled and semi-skilled trades, e.g., masonry, carpentry, flooring, electric, plumbing. This position is responsible for accomplishing a daily routine of general and preventative facilities maintenance, repair, and advanced cleaning tasks to provide employees and public with an environmentally safe, attractive, comfortable, clean, and efficient public buildings and structures. 

Position Duties

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Performs general and detailed maintenance and repairs on City facilities, including electrical and plumbing troubleshooting, painting, construction installation, records storage, material delivery and transport, and other related maintenance activities.
  • Performs daily inspections of assigned buildings and spaces to ensure safety as well as cleanliness standards.
  • Organizes and keeps hand tools, power tools, and supplies clean.
  • Performs carpentry work, such as patching drywall, painting, tile repair, and door adjustments.
  • Troubleshoots, diagnose, and repairs on HVAC systems.
  • Performs HVAC work such as filter changes, belt changes, cleaning registers and returns.
  • Performs electrical work such as trouble shooting diagnosing and repairing of electrical components as well as changing light bulbs, cleaning fixtures, and replacing faceplates.
  • Performs plumbing work, such as changing water filters, drain clearing, installing new fixtures, and making repairs.
  • Performs preventive maintenance and inspections on various pieces of equipment to include but not limited to HVAC system components, water softener systems, fire extinguishers, and various maintenance tools.
  • Promotes and maintains positive departmental public relations and image with other City departments and staff and the community in general.
  • Responds or refers complaints concerning facility cleaning, maintenance, or room set up to supervisor.
  • Sets up meeting rooms for public and staff use, including tables, chairs, and equipment.
  • Assists in moving furniture, boxes, and other tasks for personnel moves and relocation when required.
  • Assists in setting up personnel furniture when required.
  • Assists in set-up of District voting areas, assists on Election Day, and tears down set-ups.

Minimum Qualifications

REQUIREMENTS:

1. Knowledge equivalent to a high school diploma.  

2. Three (3) years of facilities maintenance or relevant experience.

3. Knowledge and ability to operate shop equipment and other tools associated with repair work.

4. Must maintain good mechanical and electrical abilities and aptitude.

5. Knowledge of computer software programs, including word processing and facilities programs.

6. Ability to operate hand tools including hammers, wrenches, screwdrivers, gages, templates, power tools, saws, sanders, shovels, brooms, building maintenance equipment, or outdoor material equipment (mower, and snow plow/blower).

7. Maintain a valid Wisconsin driver’s license or otherwise meet the transportation needs of the position.

Equivalent combinations of training and experience may be considered.

Other Qualifications

Shift schedule is normally Monday-Friday 7:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.
