Potential 6% Bilingual Differential and up to $50,000 bonus over a five-year period

Ritter Center is currently recruiting a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner for our Behavioral Health Team. This full-time, exempt position reports to the Clinical Director based in San Rafael, CA; the role operates out of our main Campus.

The Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) will provide outpatient psychiatric evaluation and medication management services at Ritter Center, a Federally Qualified Health Care for the Homeless Center. The PMHNP will work in coordination with Ritter Center’s Medical Clinic and Behavioral Health Department to provide psychiatric services to adult patients with behavioral health issues. This position will be supervised jointly between the Chief Medical Officer and Behavioral Health Services Manager. The PMHNP will work at our BH/Medical Clinic San Rafael offce and in the feld with our Health and Wellness Mobile Outreach Team throughout Marin County. The PMHNP will work in collaboration with an administrative assistant to coordinate client care, medication re-fills, and caseload management.


Job Duties and Responsibilities


  • Responsible for providing psychiatric services to clients in a variety of clinical settings during scheduled hours. The scope of services includes outpatient psychiatric evaluations and medication management services.
  • Assess, diagnose, and treat adults experiencing symptoms of behavioral health disorders.
  • Prescribe, recommend, or discontinue drugs and treatments to treat mental, emotional or behavioral disorders.
  • Collaborate with counselors, social workers, or other treatment team members to coordinate client care.
  • Responsible for timely and accurate completion of medical records, including assessment, progress notes, outcome measures, and billing entries.
  • Counsel clients during appointments, as necessary.
  • Examine or order laboratory or diagnostic tests for clients to provide information on general physical conditions and mental disorders.
  • Collaborate with guardians, relatives, and significant others on client’s conditions and treatment when clinically appropriate.
  • Prepare and submit assessments, progress notes, reports, and summaries to entities/agencies (funders, insurance companies, etc.) as required.
  • At least 1-2 years providing direct client care to persons receiving treatment for psychiatric disorders.
  • No suspension/exclusion/debarment from participation in federal health care programs (e.g. Medicare and Medicaid).
  • Return calls and emails promptly (within 24 hours of receipt, or sooner if clinically necessary).
  • Responsible for making independent decisions based on protocols developed utilizing national guidelines for treatment interventions.
  • Responsible for maintaining customer relations with all agency staff and clients.
  • Record all services performed for accurate billing for services provided in compliance with all local, state and federal laws, as well as payor rules and regulations. Submit billing documents in a timely fashion.
  • Looks for ways to improve and promote quality care. 
  • Provide teaching and education to clinical staff, if requested.
  • Follow all procedures and protocols as per Ritter Center policy, federal and state regulations, standard practice, and in accordance with the Collaborative Practice Agreement.
  • Actively participate in all agency and department education, training, and in-services to confirm understanding of new information or changes to established clinical policies and procedures.

Qualifications:


  • Per OSHA requirements employment at Ritter Center requires compliance with being able to produce a negative TB test prior to the start of employment, as well as being vaccinated against COVID-19 (unless applying for an exemption) per the August 5th, 2021, State Public Order for Healthcare Facilities, providers and employees.
  • Per the Marin County Department of Health and Human Services, Ritter Center requires employees to receive the Influenza vaccine (unless applying for a qualified medical or religious exemption)
  • Master’s or Doctorate Degree in Nursing with focus on Psychiatric nursing.
  • Three years post graduate experience as a PMHNP.
  • Graduation from a state-certified advance practice program specializing in psychiatry/mental health.
  • Licensed as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse in the state of CA.
  • Must have a valid DEA number and unrestricted DEA license in CA.
