To provide assistance in faculty research laboratories in the Department of Biological Sciences.

Position Duties
- Prepare supplies used in laboratory and field
- Perform quality assurance and control
- Clean work areas
- Perform sample collection and processing
- Perform library research
- Run errands on and off campus
- Coordinate other student employee activities
Minimum Qualifications
- General knowledge in Biology and Chemistry
- Biology or Chemistry majors given preference
- Completion of 2 semesters of Biology courses equivalent to BIOL 2040 and BIOL 2050
- Must possess basic computer skills
- Good attendance and reliability is a must
- Good organizational skills and neatness is a must
- Efficient workers who pay attention to details, work well independently and in teams, follow directions, and ask follow-up questions when making decisions
- Ability to traverse wet, densely vegetated, uneven terrain in a variety of weather conditions carrying field equipment and collecting plant samples and soil cores
- Ability to collect a variety of measurements in the field and lab, perform accurate data entry, and take detailed notes
- Ability to stay positive and effective during long and hot days in the field
- Willingness and flexibility to work an irregular schedule dictated by the weather (possibly including weekend and overnight travel)
- Preferred:
- Experience and/or coursework in botany, ecology, biology, environmental sciences, rangeland sciences, agriculture, geology, soils, or related fields
- Experience with dichotomous keys and/or the ability to identify plant species in the wetlands of the Great Lakes region
- Experience working in field and laboratory environments
- Experience with electronic field data collection devices and software (GPS units, handheld tablets, GIS, and ESRI’s Survey 123)
