The City of Vacaville is accepting applications for the position of Code Compliance Technician I in the Fire Department. Currently, one (1) full-time vacancy exists for this position. This recruitment will also establish an eligibility list for future full-time, part-time and limited-term vacancies in this classification that may occur over the next 12-month period.  

The Code Compliance Technician performs a variety of tasks both in the field and in the office. As a team member of the Fire Department, they work with the Police Department, general public and others to provide information to foster an understanding and compliance with activities like sign posting, fences, use permits, weed abatement and garbage disposal.  

Some duties of this position are as follows:
  • Perform site inspections as part of processing potential code violations
  • Create and present educational programs to the general public
  • Maintain records and files related to case work
  • Prepare written reports and correspondence related to enforcement activities

Salary Range
Code Compliance Technician I $63,188 - $76,806

Position Duties

The ideal candidate will be:

  • Familiar with Trak-It and GIS software
  • Able to work independently and in a group
  • Comfortable speaking at public events and educating the public on fire and life safety
  • Able to read and interpret codes
  • Organized and able to set priorities while being thorough and attentive to detail
  • An excellent communicator (including speaking, writing and listening)
  • Good at conflict resolution
  • OC Spray certified
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSAny combination of education and experience that would provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

Education: Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade.

Experience: Two (2) years of public contact experience that includes working with the public and interpretation of rules, laws, or procedures is required. Work experience in social services, investigations, code compliance, or code enforcement is highly desirable.   Some experience working in the building trades is also desirable.

LICENSES OR CERTIFICATES
Position requires the possession of a valid driver’s license and a satisfactory driving record as conditions of initial and continued employment.
