What is the role?

To prevent and detect suspicious and fraudulent activities on credit union accounts. Identify fraud trends and develop continuous improvements. Analyze and report on these trends to management. 

What will be expected of me?

  • Handling incoming calls and requests for fraud related & fraud prevention activity.  
  • Identifying suspicious activity and working with appropriate teams to investigate and thwart the activity.
  • Completing investigation tasks for assigned cases. 
  • Providing customer service to internal and external customers.
  • Helping identify processes and procedures that need to be developed to prevent or minimize fraud losses.
  • Making recommendations on how processes can be improved and policies modified. 
  • Working with the Bank Secrecy Act (BSA) Department to investigate suspicious alerts from internal departments and Anti-Money Laundering (ALM) software, performing proper follow-up and documentation.
  • Other duties as assigned.

What am I bringing?

Experience/Education:

Internal

  • 1 year experience at Westerra

External

  • 2+ years’ experience in retail banking financial services
  • Experience with fraud related activities 
  • Knowledge of Verafin (preferred)
  • Knowledge of Symitar (preferred)
  • Knowledge of Bank Secrecy Act Regulations, (emphasis on suspicious activity reports is preferred)

Skills and Abilities:

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office 
  • Exhibits strong verbal and written communication skills 
  • Learns quickly and demonstrates that learning
  • Detail oriented with strong organizational and time management skills
  • Must maintain confidentiality
  • Can be accountable for the completion of assigned tasks and projects with supervision
  • Uses judgement with supervision
  • Understands the basic business line and operating environment
  • Able to handle problems that are not particularly difficult nor complex

What is the work environment like, and are there physical requirements for this role?

  • Hybrid: Typically, a dispersed, flexible team environment both on Westerra campus (2x/week) and remote. Employees must reside in Colorado or be willing to relocate prior to starting employment. Residency is required for payroll and state tax purposes. 
  • Mon-Fri:  8am – 5pm
  • Office environment
  • Works primarily at a desk

Salary: in addition to the starting hourly rate of $20.00 - $24.00, this role is also eligible for Westerra’s self-funding reward plan. This plan pays out a cash incentive annually if Westerra hits specific criteria tied to financial goals and this role has a direct impact on the outcome of those results!
