Position Summary:
 The Facility Technician is responsible for the maintenance, repair, and general upkeep of the university’s residence halls, academic buildings, and surrounding areas. This position performs various skilled and semi-skilled tasks in carpentry, painting, general electrical, and building systems, while also supporting seasonal grounds care and snow removal. The Facility Technician serves in an on-call rotation to respond to emergencies and performs work that supports the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of university facilities.  

Work Schedule:  Monday through Friday, 12:00 pm to 8:30 pm

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform maintenance and repair activities within residence halls and academic buildings, including but not limited to carpentry, painting, minor electrical work, and general building upkeep.
  • Conduct routine inspections of facilities to identify maintenance needs, safety concerns, and repair requirements.
  • Assist with maintenance of building systems and equipment, reporting issues beyond scope to appropriate personnel.
  • Participate in an on-call rotation, responding to after-hours emergencies promptly and effectively.
  • Support grounds operations including landscaping, debris removal, and seasonal grounds care.
  • Perform snow and ice removal to maintain safe walkways, entryways, and access roads during winter operations.
  • Ensure compliance with university policies, safety procedures, and applicable codes and standards.
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, materials used, and time worked.
  • Collaborate with Facilities Associates, Residence Life, and external vendors to support the effective operation of university facilities.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A high school diploma or equivalent; completion of vocational or technical training in building trades preferred.
  • Two or more years of experience in facilities maintenance, carpentry, painting, or general building trades.
  • Working knowledge of basic electrical systems and repairs.
  • Ability to safely operate hand tools, power tools, snow removal equipment, and maintenance machinery.
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and resolve maintenance issues independently and promptly.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work effectively with students, staff, and contractors.
  • Availability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required by on-call rotation.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to work on ladders, in confined spaces, and in varying weather conditions.
  • Prolonged periods of standing, walking, bending, and manual labor.
