This posting has been set up to received candidate applications for interest in teaching Construction & Industrial Technology courses through the Continuing Education Division at Pitt Community College and will allow our staff to search applications and skills when active class needs are available. 

The Construction & Industrial Technology Instructor delivers high-quality, non-credit, instruction that supports workforce development skills and skills training in the construction and industrial trades. Instructors design and facilitate engaging, hands-on courses that prepare students for employment, career advancement, or personal skill development in technical fields. Course topics may include, but are not limited to, carpentry, electrical, HVAC, plumbing, welding, blueprint reading, OSHA safety, industrial maintenance, and manufacturing technologies.

Position Duties

• Prepare and teach assigned courses in accordance with course syllabus.

• Maintain accurate registration, attendance, and payroll records for each course taught.

• Prepare, review, and update course syllabus on a regular basis.

• Recommend and assist with curriculum revisions as necessary.

• Use formative and summative assessment techniques to improve learning and teaching.

• Create an effective learning environment and use teaching methods designed for a variety of learning styles.

• Submit required reports and fulfill all contract provisions.

• Assist with maintaining a classroom environment emphasizing safety, good housekeeping, and equipment security.

• Maintain student, instructor, and staff confidentiality. Consistently monitor work area to ensure instructor and student data is being protected according to Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) regulations.

• Multi-task, prioritize, and manage time effectively.

• Adapt and respond to changing work situations and environments in a positive manner.

• Participate in professional development activities designed to enhance job skills and knowledge, as agreed upon by the employee and supervisor.

• Interact with students, the public, the community, and co-workers in a cooperative, courteous and professional manner.

• Comply with the College’s policies and procedures.

• Perform related duties and responsibilities, as assigned by supervisor.

Minimum Qualifications

Candidates must have relevant professional experience in construction, industrial technology, or a related trade such as carpentry, electrical, HVAC, plumbing, welding, manufacturing, or industrial maintenance. Appropriate trade certifications, licensure, or industry-recognized credentials required for the subject area being taught are expected. Applicants should demonstrate knowledge of current practices, tools, safety standards, and industry regulations, including OSHA requirements. Strong communication and instructional skills are essential, along with the ability to engage adult learners from diverse backgrounds. In addition, candidates should be able to plan, organize, and deliver effective, hands-on instruction in both classroom and lab or shop settings.
