Position Duties
Firefighters facilitate fire prevention activities, educational programs, and collaborative working relationships with others.
They pre-plan, respond to, and evaluate fire, rescue and emergency response incidents.
They perform miscellaneous duties and responsibilities such as equipment, vehicle, facility, supply, and grounds maintenance. Individuals may also prepare records and reports as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
Due to the hazardous nature of this position, candidates must be at least 18 years of age prior to or upon receiving a conditional offer of employment.
Education and Experience
High school diploma or equivalent prior to or upon receiving a conditional offer of employment
Licenses and/or Certifications
The following must be obtained prior to or upon receiving a conditional offer of employment:
- Valid driving privileges in the State of Minnesota.
- Current Firefighter II certification from the Minnesota Fire Service Certification Board or equivalent certification accredited through IFSAC or NFPA Pro Board
- Current certification at the level of Emergency Medical Technician or higher with the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians
The following must be obtained prior to completion of the probationary period:
- Licensed Firefighter in the State of Minnesota
- Certification from the Minnesota Fire Service Certification Board
- Certification from the Minnesota Emergency Medical Service Regulatory Board
All licensure and certifications must be maintained throughout employment as a condition of continued employment.
