ABOUT THE POSITION

The Tractor Operator is an entry-level position which offers a unique opportunity to gain experience in farm operations, property management, and occasional guest services. Under the direction of the Property Manager, the Tractor Operator will help maintain the plantation’s land, equipment, and livestock, while supporting special projects and guest experiences.

You will also be responsible for:

  • Safely operate tractors and other farm machinery to mow roads, maintain feed trails, and clear debris after storms.
  • Use heavy equipment to manage burn piles, clear woods, and maintain the property.
  • Assist with farming practices including harrowing, planting, and spraying.
  • Operate ATVs and UTVs to support burning and other land management activities.
  • Perform daily plantation tasks such as feeding horses and dogs, applying chemicals to control weeds, maintaining equipment, and running errands, including airport trips.
  • Handle firearms safely; occasionally guide guests on hunting experiences.
  • Ride horses during quail hunts as required.
  • Contribute to a variety of projects as assigned to ensure the smooth operation of the plantation.
  • Performing all other duties as assigned by the Property Manager.


YOUR QUALIFICATIONS

Essential:

  1. A high school diploma or GED is required; one to three months of related experience and/or training is preferred. An equivalent combination of education and experience will also be considered. 
  2. Experience operating heavy equipment is a plus; proficiency with ATVs and UTVs is highly desirable. 
  3. Firearms experience is required, with the ability to handle shotguns and rifles safely and confidently. 
  4. Must have experience with horses and be able to ride horses during quail hunts.
  5. Ability to work long hours when needed, including weekends and holidays.
  6. This position requires the operation of vehicles, and you’ll need to possess a valid driver’s license or be able to obtain one within 30 days of employment.   Your driving record will need to meet the standards and requirements of the Company and the Company’s insurance provider.
  7. You’ll need to present documentation establishing both identity and employment authorization within three days of hire pursuant to federal law.

ACCOMMODATIONS

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & WORK ENVIRONMENT

On a regular basis, you can expect to:

  • Stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, dig with various tools, or feel; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and talk or hear.
  • Lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Perform physical labor for extended periods of time.

On a frequent basis, you can expect to:

  • Ride an ATV/UTV for extended periods of time on uneven, rough terrain and occasionally on roads and flat terrain while performing farm duties. 
  • Climb ladders. 
  • Lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. 

On an occasional basis, you can expect to:

  • Sit.
  • Lift and/or move more than 100 pounds. 

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. 


You will regularly be exposed to moving mechanical parts; outside weather conditions; extreme cold and extreme heat. You will frequently be exposed to firearms, high precarious places and fumes or airborne particles. You will occasionally be exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. While performing the duties of this job, you must be alert and aware of dangers that are present while working in a semi-remote property environment.
