Summary of Job Duties:
This is a 12-month, tenure-track Assistant Professor position in the School of Nursing (SON). Responsibilities include teaching, advising, mentoring, and assessing students throughout the nursing program. Nursing faculty also engage in service to the university, community, and nursing profession. Teaching involves clinical and classroom instruction, along with other assigned duties. In-state residency is required after employment begins. This position is governed by state and federal laws, as well as agency and institutional policies.
Qualifications:
Required Education and or Experience:
A master's degree with a major in nursing, OR A doctoral degree with a major in nursing, OR A doctoral degree (Ph.D., DNP, or EdD), and a master's in nursing;
Applicant must also have a current, unencumbered Arkansas or multi-state RN license from a compact state or the ability to obtain Arkansas licensure before the position start date;
Applicant must also maintain in-state residency during employment.
Preferred Education and or Experience:
Doctoral degree in Nursing or related field; or current enrollment in a doctoral program;
Teaching experience and recent practice in nursing or nursing education related to the program's needs;
CNE Certification.
Job Duties:
Teach, advise, mentor, and evaluate students throughout the nursing program;
Participate in service to the university, community, and profession;
Establish and maintain a program of scholarly activities;
Conduct clinical, face-to-face, hybrid, and/or online student learning activities designed to meet student and program learning outcomes;
Perform other duties as assigned.
Teaching
Consistent student and peer ratings of above average or higher;
Active participation in team planning and decision-making;
Revision of student learning experiences based on data analysis, current research findings, and trends;
Use of effective teaching strategies and methodologies;
Establishment and maintenance of collegial working relationships;
Effective communication with staff, students, peers, agency personnel, and administration;
Consistent meeting of established timelines and project completion dates;
Contributes to the evaluation and revision of courses (i.e., content, assignments, forms, learning activities, etc.);
Development of test items in accordance with the School of Nursing (SON) guidelines (AAS);
Evidence of continued role development (i.e., seminars, workshops);
Demonstrates effective integration of technology;
Demonstrates knowledge of current nursing practice and contemporary healthcare trends.
Service
Active participation in SON governance and committees by contributing ideas, meeting Program Evaluation timelines, and supporting Program Evaluation development and revisions;
Serving on college committees and/or participating in college activities;
Engaging in community and discipline-related service activities;
Providing accurate academic advising aligned with SON expectations and actively participating in SON group information sessions;
Maintaining active membership in at least one state or national professional organization in nursing or higher education.
Research/Scholarly
Participation in professional continuing education activities;
Development and submission of at least two professional articles or presentations every two years, either individually or as part of a group;
Development of research or study ideas and designs in areas that benefit the nursing program or expand nursing knowledge;
Creation of learning resources to be used in the curriculum;
Development and/or maintenance of internal documents or reports necessary to meet SON goals.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
Ability to teach and mentor students throughout the nursing program. Teaching may include clinical, face-to-face, online, and/or hybrid formats;
Ability to work with a varied population;
Computer literacy and experience;
Ability to work a flexible schedule, which may include evenings, nights, and weekends;
Ability to travel occasionally, including overnight stays;
Ability to drive a motor vehicle and possess a valid driver's license;
Ability to maintain scheduled on-campus office days.
