PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES IN STERILE PROCESSING (SPD):
- Learn and adhere to sterile techniques and infection control protocols.
- Assemble and wrap smaller instrument sets and singles.
- Assemble basic general instrument sets.
- Organize rigid containers for washing and use.
- Remove contaminated cases from the elevator.
- Perform routine tasks such as stocking supplies and maintaining operating room organization.
- Participate in on-the-job training sessions and educational activities to enhance knowledge of surgical instrumentation and equipment.
- Exhibit ability to multitask.
- Consistently provide service excellence to all patients, family members, visitors, volunteers, and co-workers.
- Perform other work-related duties and activities as assigned or requested by the supervisor.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES IN THE OPERATING ROOM (OR):
- Assist in maintaining a clean, safe, and organized operating room environment.
- Observe surgical technologists in setting up instruments, supplies, and equipment for surgical procedures.
- Transport patients as needed, ensuring safety.
- Deliver and return appropriate equipment to each operating room, including but not limited to stirrups, suction machines, towers, step stools, positioning aids, D&C machines, and TPS consoles.
- Assist in the care, handling, and transport of delicate, sophisticated, expensive equipment such as microscopes and specialty equipment.
- Maintain patient safety by ensuring beds and stretchers remain locked during patient transfer and bed rails are up at all times.
- Assist with room cleaning and turnover as assigned or directed.
- Work effectively with other staff as a member of the surgical team.
- Demonstrate initiative to keep areas clean, orderly, and free from trash and clutter.
- Assist RN in restocking OR room cabinets per par levels.
- Demonstrate ability to prioritize tasks according to urgency.
- Exhibit ability to multitask.
- Consistently provide service excellence to all patients, family members, visitors, volunteers, and co-workers.
- Perform other work-related duties and activities as assigned or requested by the supervisor.
- Ability to read, write, and communicate in English.
- Minimum of High School Diploma/GED or higher.
- Basic computer skills.
- Good interpersonal skills, being concise by phone, intercom, and in person.
- Must be enrolled in an accredited Surgical Technologist degree program. Upon completion of an accredited Surgical Technologist degree program, the candidate will be moved into a Grade S13 Surgical Technologist position.
- Excellent attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to follow precise instructions.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with healthcare professionals.
- Physical ability to stand for long periods, lift and transport equipment, and perform repetitive tasks.
- (Preferred) – CCHC Medical Terminology Exam (or proof of course, prior to start date).
- (Preferred) – Experience working within a healthcare setting.
