Job Title: Histology Mohs Technician
Department: Pathology
Reports to: Histology Manager
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Job Type: Full-time
Location: Roseville with travel expected to Monticello, Faribault, Hudson, Lindstrom, and Lakeville.

Job Responsibilities:
- Accurately prepares histologic slides from tissue sections for microscopic examination and diagnosis by a Pathologist or Mohs Surgeon.
- Identifies, prepares, cuts, stains, and preserves specimen integrity in such a manner for the Pathologist or Mohs Surgeon to render a reliable diagnosis.
- Utilizes high level of technical skills for testing methods as well as special knowledge and abilities for troubleshooting. Maintains laboratory equipment and inventory. Prepares special stains including immunohistochemistry.
- Performs all dermatology tissue dissection according to the grossing procedure.
- Performs tissue manipulation and orientation mapping on Mohs specimens with high degree of accuracy and reliability to ensure results that can assist in the timely diagnosis and treatment of patients.
- Competent in all pre-analytic, analytic and post-analytical phases of histology and Mohs surgery.
- Performs grossing/dissection of skin and MOHS specimens using skills and knowledge of tissue type and structure.
- Use equipment and instruments including microscopes, H&E Linear Stainer, cryostats and other lab equipment.
- Receive and accession specimens by labeling Mohs map and Mohs log.
- Prepare Mohs sections for immediate examination according to procedure.
- Performs grossing/dissection of skin and MOHS specimens using skills and knowledge of tissue type and structure while maintaining orientation and specimen integrity.
- Performs solution preparation with accuracy and proper labeling.
- Maintain accurate documentation in accordance to policies, procedures and complies with all State, Federal, and professional regulations.
- Monitor quality control and proper maintenance of all logs, equipment and instruments.
- Comply with HIPAA Regulations
- Comply with OSHA rules, safety standards and regulations.
- All other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Ability to read and communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Must be able to work closely with others and possess solid interpersonal and communication skills Basic computer knowledge.
- Must possess fine manual dexterity.
- Candidates must be able to multitask in a fast-paced environment and have excellent attention to detail. Ability to work independently, accountable and responsible.
- Ability to handle the stress of producing accurate results under time constraints
- Ability to accommodate schedule adjustments.
- Must follow compliance rules and regulations against fraud and abuse. Must follow Tareen Dermatology policies and procedures.
Supervisory Responsibilities: This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
Education and Experience:
- Associate or Bachelor’s Degree- In science related field
- HT or HTL ASCP certification required
- CLIA requires an individual seeking to perform high-complexity testing to have obtained (at a minimum) 60 semester hours. Twenty-four hours of the 60 must be semester science hours that include at least 6 hours of chemistry, 6 hours of biology, and another 12 hours of biology, chemistry, or medical laboratory technology courses in any combination.
- Previous medical dermatology, laboratory and MOHS experience required.
Work Environment:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in a clinic and lab settings.
