Substitute Assistant Karate Teacher - Extended Learning chez Punahou School

Punahou School is seeking a Substitute Assistant Karate Instructor for the Extended Learning Karate program. The Karate classes focus on character development and physical fitness while students learn basic to intermediate skills in Karate. Students are taught the traditional style of Shito-Ryu Karate through proper techniques, stances, and movement, and concentration.

Position Details:

• Work Year: 9 Months
• School Year: 2025-2026
• Work Hours:  Monday & Wednesday, 2:20 PM – 3:45 PM, Schedule may vary based on operational needs
• Hourly Rate: $17.00/Hour

Minimum Qualifications:

• Currently enrolled in a bachelor program in education or a related field. Bachelor’s degree preferred.
• Experience as a karate student, specifically in the style of Sito-Ryu Karate
• One (1) year of experience supervising students in an elementary school setting
• Project a confident, positive, helpful and professional demeanor in working with others, using tact, discretion, and diplomacy at all times.
• Possess highly effective interpersonal communication skills: verbal, non-verbal, listening and written.
• Will act as a role model, understanding professional boundaries on and off-the-job, especially when interacting with students, colleagues, parents and other visitors.
• Demonstrate enthusiasm and commitment towards continual professional development.
• Have the ability to take direction and respond positively to feedback from supervisors.
• Maintain professionalism in attendance, timeliness, conduct, and appearance.
