About the Department
This is a full-time 8 hours/ 1 FTE per day position working on the CL-11 (225 days per full school year) schedule, Mon-Fri.
The purpose of this position is to support a safe and secure learning environment for students, staff, and visitors at District facilities and events by providing program leadership and program administrative support to District 4J School Monitors. This position is expected to monitor, coordinate, prepare, organize and train school-based Campus Monitors on their functions within the K-12 environment. Daily responsibilities may include ensuring adequate coverage for school monitors, interacting with the community to promote a safe and healthy educational environment, working with school administrators, and supporting department leadership’s efforts to develop, create and document program specific procedures and activities.
Position Duties
This position has the following expectations and prerequisite abilities.
- Present self and 4J in a professional manner including: in oral and written communication, professional disposition when working with others and maintaining professional dress standards.
- Knowledge of and ability to apply district rules, regulations, practices and procedures relating to safety and security of facilities, student and visitor conduct and student records.
- Knowledge of state and federal laws regarding child abuse, sexual conduct, restraint and seclusion, and search and seizure.
- Ability to effectively coordinate and plan
- Knowledge of proper documentation.
- Ability to communicate effectively with other employees and students using trauma informed communication practices.
- Ability to appropriately intervene in emergency or potentially critical situations.
- Ability to use crisis intervention techniques to diffuse potentially volatile situations
- Ability to effectively communicate, disseminate, and effectuate verbal or written communication and directives to a diverse group of administrators, staff, and the broader district community.
- Maintain a high degree of professionalism, integrity, dependability and maintain a high level of confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA, FERPA and adherence to the competent and ethical educator practices.
- Promotion of equity and diversity in all settings and processes and a commitment to anti-racists principles.
- Maintain compliance with state and federal laws governing all aspects of our agency including ORS, OAR, IDEA, FOIA, and CIPA.
- Exceptional prioritization of tasks, timely completion of work assignments, ability to take the initiative and work independently with minimal supervision.
- Demonstrates respectful, flexible and effective teambuilding skills of cooperation, communication and active participation.
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written directives, find requested data and present in user-friendly formats for internal and public distribution.
- Maintain regular attendance at work. Be punctual in meeting deadlines, attending meetings, and following schedules.

Minimum Qualifications
Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities may be considered qualified as determined by Human Resources.
Education & Experience
- Must be Highly Qualified according to No Child Behind (NCLB); AND
- Graduation from a two-year college with major course work in education, community services, human services, recreation, public administration or related field; and at least two years of experience in recreational programming, social services, human services, community services or related areas; OR
- Graduation from a four-year college or university in education, community services, human services, recreation, public administration or related field.
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate degree in Public Safety, Security Technology, Sociology, Psychology, or closely related field, OR
- High School Diploma or successful passage of the tests for General Education Development (G.E.D.); AND
- Active certification from the Department of Public Safety Standards and Training (DPSST) as an unarmed private security officer (or ability to obtain certification within 90 days of hire), and Valid state issued driver’s license.
