About the Department
Under general supervision, the purpose of this job is to provide responsible installation, administration, connectivity, operation, and maintenance of all network equipment, network operating systems, communication systems, network backups, network security, and intrusion detection. An employee in this position will implement and maintain security standards, inventory of all network equipment, related warranties, and service level agreements.
Position Duties

- Installs, configures, and supports internal and/or external networks.
- Develops, maintains, manages, and updates virtualized network and storage network infrastructure.
- Plans, coordinates, and implements security measures to protect network systems data citywide for Information Technology and Operational Technology needs (EG: SCADA).
- Manages security on internet firewall and wireless network.
- Manages data protection on all servers.
- Monitors security status and negates security threats.
- Documents network configuration and security measures.
- Performs network security risk analysis, tracks incident handling and reporting.
- Recommends, installs, and maintains system availability and alerting systems, intrusion and detection monitoring system, as well as auditing and reporting systems.
- Troubleshoots network performance issues and provides recommendations for resolution.
- Evaluates the need for repair, replacement, upgrade, or addition of network components and WAN connectivity (including switches, routers, WAP’s, racks and wiring).
- Coordinates with vendors regarding hardware and software maintenance, service level agreement and warranty information for network equipment, WAN equipment, cybersecurity equipment, and associated software.
- Performs maintenance, administration, and support of city’s voice communication systems, including VoIP, MDM, and analog connections.
- Manages and maintains TCP/IP addressing/subnetting using static and dynamic (DHCP) IP address assignment, Access Control Lists, and VLANs throughout the environment.
- Preserves confidentiality of any sensitive information.
- Performs quality reviews and compliance audits (NIST, CJIS, etc…) internally and/or with vendors.
- Interacts professionally and respectfully with the public, coworkers and others in the course of daily work.
- Responds to emergency calls relating to performance, diagnosis of problems, repairing problems or calling upon appropriate technicians.
- Must report to work for duty outside normally scheduled work hours in response to natural disasters, emergencies or critical incidents as determined by City Administration.
- Regular and timely attendance are required for this position.

Minimum Qualifications
- Requires a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, or a closely related field; supplemented by four (4) years of progressive, responsible experience in information systems with work experience in network administration, network engineering, network infrastructure administration, cybersecurity administration, operational technology support, and desktop administration, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
- Must possess and maintain a valid State of Texas Driver’s License.
