Job Summary of the Sr. Tax Manager
The Sr. Tax Manager at Axogen is responsible for managing the company's domestic and global tax operations and compliance. This includes ensuring adherence to all tax laws and regulations, leading tax planning and strategy, and optimizing the company's tax position. The role also involves collaborating with various departments to provide tax-related guidance and support.
Requirements of the Sr. Tax Manager
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
- Active CPA (Certified Public Accountant) license preferred
- At least 12 years of tax related experience
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in corporate tax, including significant experience with multinational operations
- Public company industry experience, required
- Previous public accounting experience serving public companies preferred; at a Big 4 or large regional firm preferred
- Previous life science industry experience, preferred
- In-depth knowledge of federal, state, and international tax laws and regulations.
- Experience with Accounting Software, i.e. Great Plains a plus
- Experience in implementation of financial systems.
- Proven track record in tax planning, compliance, and strategy development
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Strong leadership and team management abilities
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate across departments
- Proficiency in tax software and Microsoft Office Suit.
Responsibilities of the Sr. Tax Manager
The specific duties of the Sr. Tax Manager include but are not limited to:
- Oversee the preparation and review of federal and state tax returns, coordinate the preparation and filing of international tax returns, manage domestic and international tax audits, and arrange timely tax payments as needed.
- Prepare and manage the filing of payroll tax returns and ensure payroll system setup accurately captures taxes through earnings and deductions codes.
- Develop and implement tax strategies to minimize tax liabilities and support business objectives.
- Develop and maintain a system for tracking, analyzing, and reporting KPIs related to tax compliance and planning, and report data to management.
- Conduct research and provide guidance on tax implications of business strategies, decisions, and transactions.
- Identify and pursue opportunities for tax incentives.
- Identify and implement opportunities for efficiency, scalability, and cost savings.
- Assist with the design, implementation, and maintenance of internal controls to ensure compliance with company policies and SOX, preventing and detecting material misstatements in financial statements related to taxes and disclosures.
- Ensure the company is registered for taxes in all operating jurisdictions and maintain current tax registrations.
- Stay current with changes in tax legislation and regulations and assess their impact on the company.
- Work closely with finance, legal, and other departments to ensure tax considerations are integrated into business planning.
- Provide training and updates on tax matters such as tax law change and tax issues, while also preparing tax memoranda and communications to internal stakeholders.
- Streamline tax processes and enhance internal controls to ensure accuracy and compliance.
- Maintain comprehensive documentation of tax positions, policies, and procedures.
- Foster a culture of continuous improvement and professional development within the finance team.
