About the Department
Position Duties
Enters and maintains real property valuating data, which includes entering all data countywide for land splits, whole transfers, new construction, property appeals, and other related data.
Maintains a high level of accuracy in all work
Assists Tax Administrator Office staff, lawyers, bankers, real estate agents, and all others in searching tax records.
Assists taxpayers with inquiries regarding the assessment process, the Machinery Act of North Carolina, and other related inquiries.
Edits all data entry work pertaining to Assessment. Must meet and maintain a 5 percent or less error percentage consistently.
Establishes the situs of each taxpayer by referencing local maps, school, and fire district records.
Processes mailing address changes.
Responsible for deed entry for all property transfers. This includes splits, combinations, plats, and other related documents.
Prepares letters for various types of notification.
Reviews computer-generated reports, which include reports such as edit reports, audit trails, value edit reports, etc.
Assists in quarterly review of Use Value properties, preparing files for appraiser inspection, handling applications, and other correspondence.
May perform other clerical work as needed.
May assist with data entry within other departments of Tax Administration.
May assist in the public office as needed to handle public inquiries, answer the telephone, and make copies of maps and appraisal cards.
Pull legal instruments from various locations and enter them into the document management system.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:
High School Diploma or an acceptable equivalency diploma (GED), and one (1) year of experience in tax or appraisal work; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:
Associate’s degree from an accredited university, or two (2) years of experience in tax, appraisal, or data entry work; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
