JOB SUMMARY
The Cook I reports directly to the Food Services Manager and is responsible for preparing high-quality, nutritious meals for the facility in accordance with all contractual obligations, State and local health department regulations, and established food safety standards. This role requires strict adherence to dietary and nutritional guidelines to meet the diverse needs of residents, including special diets and allergy considerations. The Cook I ensures proper food handling, storage, and sanitation practices are followed at all times, maintains a clean and organized kitchen environment, and contributes to menu planning and inventory management. Collaboration with the Food Services Manager and other team members is essential to support a positive dining experience and uphold the facility’s commitment to health and wellness.
ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
- Prepare meals in accordance with approved menus that meet established nutritional standards and comply with all contractual obligations, State and local health department regulations.
- Oversee the efficient operation and cleanliness of the culinary workspace, including all kitchen equipment, refrigerators, pantry areas, and the dining room, ensuring a safe and sanitary environment.
- Ensure all food is properly stored, handled, and served in strict compliance with State and local health department sanitation requirements and internal food safety protocols.
- Participate in the daily cleaning and sanitizing of kitchen surfaces, equipment, and food storage areas to maintain a hygienic food preparation environment.
- Assist in conducting daily food sampling of all meals served within a 24-hour period to monitor for potential contamination and ensure food safety standards are upheld.
- Support weekly food inventory processes and ensure consistent execution of Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner menus. Make necessary adjustments based on inventory levels and dietary needs.
- Assist in maintaining daily inventory of household supplies and chemicals, ensuring all products are properly labeled and used in accordance with MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheets) guidelines.
- Enforce and follow all safety protocols related to the handling, cleaning, and storage of knives and other sharp kitchen tools to prevent accidents and injuries.
- Maintain accurate records of food temperatures, cleaning schedules, inventory logs, and food sampling results to support audits, inspections, and internal quality control.
- Will think and act quickly and efficiently in emergencies.
- Will drive on Agency business.
- Physical presence at the program is required.
ESSENTIAL JOB REQUIREMENTS
- High school diploma or GED and at least one (1) year of full-time experience.
- Be at least 21 years of age and possess a valid California Food Handlers Card
- Basic, computer skills in Office 365, Teams, Zoom and other communication/meeting platforms.
- Possess a valid driver’s license and have access to a dependable means of transportation that is properly insured and operated in accordance with all laws. Agency insurer authorization is required.
- Ability to pass a criminal background check.
- Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen and TB test.
