Job Responsibilities
- Coaching & Recruiting:
- Builds relationships with players to provide mentorship, guidance, and support both on and off the field/court.
- Coaches and instructs student athletes during practices and on game day in how to perform their sport such as proper skills and instruction of fundamentals, physical health, team concepts, and safety.
- Support the overall physical conditioning needs of student-athletes in conjunction with the head coach and strength & conditioning staff.
- Conducts player evaluations and develop plans to enhance the student-athlete experience.
- Recruiting:
- Assist the head coach with the development and implementation of recruiting plan, associated strategy and maintain a database of prospective student-athletes in coordination with the office of enrollment management.
- Equipment & Supplies Oversight:
- Leads procurement strategy and vendor negotiations for team equipment and apparel, ensuring compliance with university and NCAA standards.
- Maintain regular audits to ensure compliance and fiscal responsibility.
- Team Travel Logistics:
- Designs and oversees all team travel logistics, independently determining itineraries, vendors, and scheduling in collaboration with athletics administrators.
- Budget Management:
- Holds primary responsibility for managing and reconciling assigned budget lines, approving expenditures, and ensuring fiscal accountability.
- Player Safety Oversight:
- Assist with monitoring and supporting player safety and well-being during on- and off-ice activities.
- Identify and report concerns to coaching or medical staff as needed.
- Exercises discretion in identifying risks and implementing corrective measures to protect student-athlete well-being.
- Liaison Duties & Game Day Support:
- Serve as key point of contact for visiting teams and officials.
- Assist in hosting and providing operational support during home events.
- Video Coordination:
- Serve as primary video coordinator. Record, organize, and distribute video footage from practices and games.
- Work with coaching staff on video breakdown and analysis.
- Equipment Maintenance & Skate Sharpening:
- Oversee all aspects of protective equipment maintenance & skate sharpening.
- Student Staff Supervision:
- Responsible for recruiting, training, scheduling, and evaluating 2–5 student staff.
- Holds authority for delegating responsibilities, setting performance expectations, and recommending personnel actions.
- Professional Development & Committee Participation:
- Participate in department and institutional professional development opportunities and serve on relevant committees.

Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree or an Associate’s Degree with equivalent experience
- A minimum of 3-5 years of previous ice hockey experience at the collegiate or professional level (playing, coaching or managing)
- Demonstrated ability to exercise discretion and independent judgment in operational decision-making
- Proven leadership in managing projects, budgets, or personnel
- Proficiency in skate sharpening and equipment repair.
- Experience coordinating travel logistics.
- Knowledge of NCAA and AHA rules and regulations.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Effective communication and leadership abilities.
- Familiarity with video software (e.g., Hudl, XOS, or similar platforms).
- Computer skills (Microsoft Office Suite, Google Workspace).
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with video editing and tagging software.
- Experience in a collegiate or professional hockey environment.
- Skate profiling knowledge.

Job Summary
This position reports directly to the Head Women’s Ice Hockey Coach and collaborates with athletic administration to ensure the safety, efficiency, and excellence of the ice hockey program. The Director of Player & Team Operations/Assistant Ice Hockey Coach is responsible for assisting the head coach with the planning, development and the supervision of the RIT Women’s NCAA Division I Ice Hockey program.
The position requires a dedicated and detail-oriented professional who is responsible for strategic planning, budget oversight, and operational decision-making that directly impact the success of the women's hockey program. In addition, the position is responsible for directing and overseeing multiple critical functions, including the supervision and evaluation of student staff, development and execution of travel and equipment strategies, management of equipment maintenance and safety standards, and serving as the program’s lead video coordinator. The Director of Player & Team Operations/Assistant Ice Hockey Coach has authority to make independent operational decisions, set priorities, and implement best practices that align with institutional, departmental and NCAA standards. The Director of Player & Team Operations/Assistant Ice Hockey Coach is expected to adhere to the highest standards of integrity, professionalism, and commitment to student-athlete development while maintaining compliance with university and NCAA policies.
